Default Can you drive car without a tune after cam install?

Parts and machine work are coming in at the 11th hour...

I have to get a 1st gear set replaced and need to drive (if OK) my C6Z06 225 miles after I get the new heads, cam, and headers on to get the transmission work done.

timing does not allow me to get the tuning done, so question is if I can drive it (450 miles) before getting the tune changed?

If not I can trailer it.

450 miles? I wouldn't personally.

Fuel injector timing would be off due to the cam. You'll most likely flow more air due to the heads, putting off your MAF and VE table. Headers can potentially mess around with your closed loop fueling, as well as a couple of other things.

If you have the option to trailer it, I would recommend going down that route.

if there is a 1% to trailer it then do it or maybe get a base tune and run the car for few miles. but in case you don't have those chances then drive it.

I'd say trailer it. If you could get a base flash from your tuner it would be safe to drive but I wouldn't do any WOT without a real tune.

Drive it. The worst that'll happen is the engine will want to stall because the idle settings will be way off. Once you're on the highway, it'll be fine.

I did my cam, pushrods, retainers timing chain.
Drove it around the neighborhood once done. Ran rough. Lots of misfires n wanted to stall occasionally. Few days later. Got on the highway and drove 30 miles to my buds to tune it. Once on highway it was ok. You could feel some misfires driving but after we tuned it she ran home like a champ.
But then again if u have a trailer ,trailer it. I didn't have a trailer

My car was an exception I guess. After heads, big cam, intake it drove about the same as it did after the tune. It idled just fine and never wanted to die. I obviously didn't get on it at all.

Call AAA and have them tow it on a flat bed to your desired location.

Reschedule the gear replacement.

Drive to the tuner.

No way would I drive 400+ miles without a tune
