My tuner said he is seeing detonation on the log via hp tuners

He has pulled timing and said he should be able to run more however then knock sensors are showing a problem.

Is it common for these to play up ? And give wrong information ?

C5's were known for failing 02's mostly on the 97-00's
Not common at all on a C6--
Ask your tuner if he is seeing real or false knock---
With real knock usually you will hear some minor pinging still
But with false knock the ECM removes timing and you don't hear a thing
There are several mods that can create "false knock" LT headers is the biggest culprit
Is he getting any knock codes ??
PS: a tuner can fix false knock I do it on almost all heavily modded cars by de-sensitizing the knock tables

Have to be careful not to over do it on desensitizing the knock sensors. Of course, any halfway decent tuner would know this.

I'd consider replacing the sensors first just to rule that out. They are cheap and easy to replace.
