Default Local shop doesn't want to install ECS with SD, only MAF...

All the reading I've been doing makes me want to go SD with the ECS kit, fuel and meth system.

The tuner is a local guy that is fairly well known and does great work from what I've been hearing. They have plenty of 1xxx hp cars with MAF which is mostly why they prefer it I guess.

Should I be concerned?

Houston car. 11' GS A6.

Nothing wrong with using the MAF if he can get it to work smoothly. It seems that is tougher to do with the ECS setup due to the placement of the BOV. He should be willing to tune SD if necessary, even though it takes a bit more time.

I can either send a file or put an SD tune in the ECM for you so they will only have to do minor touch ups on it if anything. N/C

Its just the difference in source for airflow figures right? MAF or VE table dependent I believe. But on the LS isnt it both anyway.... MAF with SD taking over when the MAF data is erratic ( at idle and such). My LS memories are a little foggy.

I seriously doubt it is the placement of the BOV causing any issues. If anything it is the maf pipe and placement of the maf.

I dunno. I see the pipe and MAF in similar spot as others. Main difference seems to be placement of the bov.

Yeah, it's mixed mode on stock vehicles. Stock above 3500 RPM's they are MAF only, under that mixed mode. Just different ways of calculating airflow.

I can only say from my experience with the ECS kit I would prefer an SD tune. Take Doug up on his offer for a base file--he does so many of these things it should be really close.

MAF can absolutely work just fine in the right setup. For whatever reason there seems to be too much turbulence on ECS's setup. Whether that's from MAF placement or BOV placement, I have no idea.

SD is preferred on ANY kit. I just don't get the recent "ECS kits needs SD" crap.

Not sure it's crap. My tuner just did an ECS kit for a member here and couldn't get it running well on MAF. Did it SD and it's working great. He's done many A&A kits, and procharger since he's a dealer, and never has that issue. Mine also runs great on MAF.

Either way, I don't really know or care, but the main difference is the bov placement so I would assume it's that.

ECS kits maybe more sensitive to maf issues, but don't need a SD tune. In this OPs case I would do what the tuner wants, but make it clear to them if you are not happy you are not repaying for them to do the SD part.

Either send me the ECM, or if your tuner uses EFI live I can just email a file.
