Newbie questions on tuning stock 2009 LS3
I have a stock 2009 LS3 (A6 transmission) and I am wondering about the performance/horsepower improvements with a tune. I am trying to decide if it is worth it. I've read that these engines are not tuned for maximum performance from the factory but I really don't know that much about it.
1. What is the typical improvement in horsepower if tuning a stock LS3?
2. How much is the average cost of getting this done?
3. Is there any downside to getting the car tuned (assuming it is done at a reputable shop)?
Thanks for any advice.

This question has been asked many times and many are tired of answering but here goes again.
1. Horsepower gains vary but will certainly be somewhere between 10-30, but this is not the most important improvement. The engine will be noticeably more responsive, have more torque, and the auto tranny programming will greatly improve how it works.
2. Prices vary greatly depending on who does it and how. Rough estimate $300-500.
3. Assuming reputable tuner and no warranty issues - none. Unless you use more gas because you constantly have your foot in the gas.
