Default Rotor Painting

What's some good paint for painting the rotors, will 500 duplicolor caliper paint work fine?

A previous post explained that the Duplicolor caliper paint will not tolerate rotor type temperatures

I tried high temperature Rustoleum Bar-B-Q black for the infamous rusty rings, brackets and hubs. So far it has held up pretty good, but I have not really heated them up on a road course, etc.

Time will tell!

You want to paint the rotors? That's gutsy for sure.

Duplicolor worked fine for me. I painted with less than a 1,000 miles and sold with about 8,000 miles, with no deterioration.

The paint I used was the brush type Vs the spray type. Called "Caliper Paint".

Hope this helps.

Duplicolor 1200 degree will hold up great. I sometimes burn contaminants off of steel parts in my oven at 1000 degrees, and the 1200 degree paint has held up just fine in it when I tested it.

Tried to use Eastwood Oxysolve on my new set of Z06 Rotors to zinc coat them. Ended up eating the paint off of the rears (they come with the hat & interior painted) - so now I have to strip the rest of the paint of, and have them professionally plated ($75 for all 4).

Almost tempted to strip ALL the paint off front & rear and just have them zinc'd thru.

Default Caliper paint

I sent away for caliper paint and recently painted mine with it. It was unbelieveably easy. The paint had two parts to it. You had to mix in a hardener which made it also heat resistant. I pulled the wheels off the car after using a scissor jack and used the brush in the kit. They also gave me a can of brake spary cleaner to use before painting to make sure all of the grime was off. The kit was only about $25 - $30 on the internet. The calipers look beautifull! They also have a glossy shine to them like a porcelan look to them. As far as I am concerned, they look as good if not better than the powder coated ones. They really stand out. The whole job took an hour and a half including pulling offf the wheels. After putting on the initial coat, I touched up some spots that I had missed. Then I put the wheels back on. The next day, I took a razor blade and ran it across the corvette letters. The paint comes off clean from the letters as they are a smooth finish and paint doesn't adhere to them well. They look great!! This is as easy a job that you could do.

Hey Rick, I am in Miami. Where are you able to get 4 rotors zinc plated for $75? There should be a line down the street . . . . . .

What part of the rotor are you painting? I just used some 500 degree clear for the black hats of my new Eradispeeds.

KPC Southern in Pompano quoted me that price. 24-48 Hour turnaround. (954) 943-4022 - I spoke with a woman named June.

I have them into a powercoating shop here in Oakland Park to have the rest of the paint bead-blasted off. KPC told me to remove all the paint before plating. Still trying to decide whether to repaint the hats black, or just leave them plated...

I did mine with 1200 degree in silver, than painted over the rears with 500 degree black paint (never got around to redoing the fronts).

1st session on the race track today and the black paint all burned off. The 1200 held up just fine.

I have successfully used header paint on my C6 rotors and hats but typically the higher the heat degree rating of header paint, the flatter the finish.
