what does a split cam do for you?
I have seen the X1 cam from MTI and they call it split cam...i can see why by looking at the specs but what does that do for the engine...why would you want that?

There are a couple of reasons.
A reverse split cam will give you a little more driveability than one with a standard split or one with more exhaust bias.(with similar intake and exhaust durations of course)
They are also used alot in cars that have a very poor intake setup.
The main point of a reverse split cam is to hold pressure on the power stroke longer before opening the exhaust valve. You can gain power in an certain setups that aren't using alot of compression but you really need a good flowing exhaust. If you are running cats and a stock exhaust, this is the wrong type of cam to use.
I ran a reverse split cam 234/228 and ran shorties/2.5" cats/no resonators/ and stock exhaust on my H/C GTO. I switched to Longtubes and no cats and true dual 2.5" exhaust. The results speak for themselves why you need a really good free flowing exhaust.

The X1 cam is vastly underrated. I ran 11.3's with in on my C5 (cam only)
The reverse split gives you more low end torque and better driveability.
They are not ideal for drag racing, but are way more fun than standard splits on the street where the low end comes into play.
I had 417 RWHP and 404 Torque with it. The power was from idle to redline, just like the graph above. Do not be scared of a reverse split cam. If your car is mainly for the street I'd give it a shot. Not to mention, you can keep your idle low (800-850) and make the car lope like hell, its sounds badass.

Hmmmm. Intersting that it would result in more lope, when the reverse split has less overlap than a standard split.
The enhanced low and mid-range power makes sense. Increasing the exhaust duration typically helps power at higher RPMs, and smoothes out the TQ curve.

My buddy just put Speed Incs 007 Reverse split cam in his 06 C6 and I have to say it is amazing!!! With headers and no cats, with Vararam he put down about 420 rwhp! I drove the car and it is sick especially at higher RPM's!

Quick video of a X1 at idle.

Great sounding cam with good power down low that was mentioned above.
