ACTUALLLY!!! with that setup that 60ft is low , and that MPH is good for that DA,. I say get it above 5200rpm and do the same clutch release you mentioned and should get a 1.5x 60ft (IF not even a 1.4x) and with the gto spares Should I say ---- WAIT for it -----wait for it---------- Nyiiiiinezzzz ?
Great run indeed.

But skinnies and passenger seat out were only worth .15 to .2 in my Vette. A great mod, but not .3, no way and .2 is really stretching it.

I think that I can get a 10.2-3. There's only one way to find out. If I were to run a 10.0 or 9.99 I would be ecstatic.

I never tried back to back with/without passenger seat YET I have tested front runners Numerous times on my c5z,. I got 2 to 3 tenths everytime.. the runs were made within 20 minutes of each other,. ironically the 60ft were near identical... I would of thunk I would gain the time on the bottom/launch... I guess because the 18s have less rolling resistance?!! same air pressures though

ps... my c5 has different weight plus my street fronts I use are the OEM rears that should account for difference in our results

As you set your goals, to keep them realistic, here is the C6z fast list, everybody in the 9's. Dismiss 1 and 3, those are automatics.

You can see that you'll need to add 3-5 mph to get in the 9's. STL is not a great place to set records as your actual altitude is 550 and the track closes in October so you don't get to use the mineshaft air of the winter with high baro and low dew points.

With your power, a little launch technique work you could get a 1.4 60, which would be 10.2 something. I think a 9 is going to need more power.

Keep in mind, things break at your power level in a c6 unless you've installed a 6060 trans and a c6Z diff which I'd highly recommend if you're going to go for a 9.

If you are serious about it, you should do to the MIR shootout in November. The best of the best will be there to help coach (RobZ, Gary2004z06, maybe Seb) and the air will be record setting. I hope you do and bring home a 9! You might do it there with that weather and that track.

Ah the passenger seat removal and skinnys..... If I recall correctly my times improved .17. Now if you consider the change in the DA, less gasoline, the tire pressure & etc.... at the time of my best run later that day the difference was .21.

We need some imput from Tom (HOXXOH) or Marc (LS1LT1) as both of them have weight reduction down to a fine science.

The difference most likely is that you were driving a C5Z while Joe and I drive LMB C6s his with a M6 and mine a A4 with 3.15 gears.

The difference most likely is that you were driving a C5Z while Joe and I drive LMB C6s his with a M6 and mine a A4 with 3.15 gears.
I actually have all runs with mods on a spreadsheet and can calculate the delta for skinnies and seat out (I did both at the same time) and can note DA differences..... But I think Tommy is right as usual! Lol

I went from very consistent 11.2's (for over a year) to 11.0-11.1 and even snagged a 10.99 from nothing more than seat out and skinnies on.

Ah Joe it is not a question of being right

It was just a question of running down the 1/4 mile many, many times on that day as the air got better, keeping the tires out of the sun and using up enough gasoline. If we compare apples to apples the improvement was only .17

I am sure that Tom and Marc can add quite a bit to the weight saving conversation

Oh yeah! I know that I need the skinnies to get into the 10.2-3. Gateway closed last year in Nov, I believe right before or after Thanksgiving. I try to be very realistic and never set the bar too high. After the meth install, I wasnt expecting a 10.5 at all. I knew I didnt have the skinnies , knew that maybe had to change the driving a bit, and no changes whatsoever were done to the tune. The DA was not stellar either. I know that last spring we saw -500 at Gateway, so maybe we get to see that this Nov? As for the taking the seat out...that's a personal preference, because I rather keep it in place.
As always Joe, your advice is really appreciated!

Epi, the seat is 53 lbs and 4 easy to get at 13mm nuts 1 13mm seat belt nut and two easy to part connectors.

My 72 year old buddy takes his out at the track and puts it back in. Not kidding.

Seriously, do it. If you get a 10.00 you'll be kicking yourself you didn't get that seat out! Its .005 - remember the 100 lbs per .1 rule, it really absolutely works for a decent estimate of the weight loss gains.

Joe, I know how easy is to take them out as I have pulled them before for cleaning the carpet. I may do it to see what happens...like you said I may be beating myself afterwards. The same like I did after running this last time! Decided not to run the gto spares and Maybe I would've went home with a 10.35 timeslip instead.

Thank you!

Here is what I've learned.

Any time you go to the track and the weather is decent... be prepared to set a record. That means skinnies on, seat out. It's easy to swap and you'll kick yourself if you don't.

I am sure that Tom and Marc can add quite a bit to the weight saving conversation

I think I heard my name and weight being used in the same breath.

OK, so here it is from several years ago and even before Joe ever pulled his seat or ran skinnies.

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...ght-tests.html

Now I will say there are lots of places to cut weight that many people overlook and places that no one suspects. It's just as effective to remove 10 items of 1 lbs each as it is for 1 item that weighs 10 lbs. So with that in mind, the little places add up too.

The first place to look is the obvious. Clean out the cubbies, glovebox, and console. With the exception of the OM, there was nothing there from the factory. Next, remove anything that doesn't require tools, such as floormats, cargo shade and net, ashtray, lighter, etc. Now start working on the easy stuff, like chicklets, door handles, wiper fluid, and the rear hood weatherseal and work up to the harder things like seats, and seriously vacuuming the carpet. (don't laugh, I got 7 ounces of dirt the last time ) Swapping J55 brakes for J9L brakes is good for about 15.5 lbs (some of it rotating) and drilling the rotors to match the J55 ones is another 3/4 lb. The brake swap allows using GTO spare wheels without spacers. While on that subject, be sure to get the M&H bias ply skinnies, not radials. However, you need to change them at the track if it's a long drive or you deal with crap roads or heavy traffic. The lightest DR's are Hoosiers and unless you get the spindle kit from LG, stick with 17" wheels. If your power and control can handle it, go with 275 tires on 9.5" wheels. That'll allow you to run a bit higher pressure, which helps the high end. Wider tires need lower pressure and then they can still cup on the launch when the rubber gets thin. The 275 Hoosiers have 5 lbs of rubber before you see cord. Stock Vette wheels are pretty light and are priced well. The C5Z Speedline fronts are the lightest OEM 9.5" wheels.

There's always more, but this is the stuff that's easily reversible. I could even put my front emblem back on, right over the decal.

Very interesting testing. To be honest, I have not been paying too much attention to the weight. In fact almost every time I go to the track the fuel level is at 1/2 tank. I may have to pay close attention to those details. If were to start counting pounds, I'll venture to say that during raceday I have about 45-50 pounds of extra weight. So last Wednesday I was probably about 100 pounds too heavy since I didn't install the skinnies.

Thank you Tom

Well at least we did not add a "diet" as we often did when Dennis was going for a record . I can not tell you how many times Marc chased after me, Dennis and anyone else looking for us to empty our pockets trying to set a new PB.

Marc would take the food out of you hand if you were going to make a run Too bad he has not been on the forum lately as he can also provide a very helpful list too.

Pitufina hopefully you will have some great air and get closer to
that 10.00 good luck

Took my 08 A6 to the track last night for the first. My other drag car is a 1000+ hp FWD car so this is a whole different world for me. First time drag racing a RWD car and first time on a radial since my FWD car made high 300s almost 9 years ago. This is on the 2.56 gear. The track was not good at all. I only launched at 1200 on this one. I tried harder on the last two runs but the track had nothing left at that point.

4. Year Corvette 2008
5. Type of Trans A6
6. Type of Suspension Base
7. Stock Performance options-none
8. Tires utilized MT ET Street 2 295/45/17
9. Modifications: Circle D 2B triple Disc built for when I turbo the car soon, Corsa Z06 axle back (added 0 hp), tuned by me, Pfadt solid trans and engine mounts, DSS 3.5" drive shaft, DSS differential output shafts
10. Dyno numbers if you have them 405
11. As much info you may want to add about the run I only launched at 1200 on this one. I tried harder on the last two runs but the track had nothing left at that point.
