Default C6 1/4 mile performance challenge

Looks like the racing weather is going to change for the better for us this weekend. So I would like to see some of the C6's get out and try to best the top performance posted so far on the forum which I believe is a 12.49 at 114.9 mph. I am speaking of stock cars on run flats with nothing more than a tune or catback. So let the games begin, who's going to post the fastest time?

CORVETTEFORUM C6 Corvette ET Rankings

History
The ¼ mile challenge began when Zippen Zee decided there had to be someone who could run quicker than Jschindler and issued a challenge on October 20, 2005. The thread quickly evolved into an informational tool for members on LS2 performance. The early version of the list began as an educational tool to be utilized by our members, comparing the elapsed times and mile per hour of different optioned & lightly modified Corvettes. The purpose of this thread was basically to see who could post the fastest showroom stock times. We though that it would be challenging to get really fast times with the stock rubber, hence the title "Stock Rubber" on the original list. The original list allowed CF members to actually see what performance gains are possible running stock tires.

As CF members went to the track and posted their times the list evolved. Somewhere along the line we added more individuals who had modified their cars so that other CF members could benefit from each others experience as long as they ran their cars with the stock tires. It finally evolved into its present form when Nineball rearranged it in June of 2006 into the list you see now. It became a Sticky later that month, thank you Major Z06. In December of 2007 it became a new thread and was merged with the original thread. It was finally moved to page one by ALLTHROTTLEANDNOBOTTLE in October of 2011, thank you.

The List is not about the fastest car. It is about keeping records of results posted by members based on specific combinations. If it were about finding the fastest, then the times would have to be corrected for weather and altitude conditions, all parts would have to be verified and video as well as time slips would have to be provided.

In any event it can be utilized as a reference tool as there is a wealth of information contained herein. The list serves as a good way for other Corvette owners to gauge the potential performance based upon modifications done.

The straight line performance results of stock and modified C6 Z06s can be found: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/showpost.php?p=1561645378&postcount=2

The straight line performance results of stock and modified C5 Z06s can be found:

Administration.
There are several members who have participated in this endeavor from the beginning to present. They act as the board of directors, made the rules, vote on your suggestions and help me administer this list. They are a valuable asset to all of us as without them there would be no list. Thank you all very much. In addition, there is 06QuicksilverZ06, Allthrottle&nobottle and Ranger who have kept me on course as I am the individual who records the times.

We originally posted times based upon the integrity of our members, unfortunately, too many individuals were not being…… shall I say hundred percent accurate, so as of 10/17/2007 we require a complete time slip.

I rather not have a discussion regarding the validity of information in the open forum but it has happened before and may happen again. If you post something that seems ridiculous, that does not mean the rest of us have to believe you. Honesty is always the best policy! Any questions are normally resolved by private message & e-mail.

The Rules
A word about the rules, we abide by the forum rules. Zippen Zee who started the thread has given me the list to maintain. There will be no arguments only discussion! I will have any argumentive posts removed from the thread. If you ignore the forum rules, you will be subject to whatever actions the moderators decide as appropriate.

Corvette Forum members request to be placed on the list and I reserve the right to disallow the posting of a members time on the list as I record the times. In the event that I deny the posting of a time on the list I will notify the member by private message and we will discuss the reason.

Thank you

Tommy

Please read instructions in post #2 before submitting a request to be added to the list

Regarding correction factors:
Times are received from all over the country and are not corrected. Because track and weather conditions vary, this list ranking does not, and can not, identify the fastest cars or drivers in any particular order. It only lists the recorded times, regardless of conditions, in order from quickest to slowest. In cases where ET is the same, the higher MPH determines list order. The bold numbers refer to the post number utilized to report the elapsed times in this thread.

Our Muscle Car Club Challenge is this weekend and the temps are suppost to be in the high 60 which is 30 degrees cooler track than I have run at so far in my car. It went a 8.25 at 87 on a 1.95 on a hot track mid 90's air temperture. Our race is at Ennis so the track prep should be good. My car is stock except for mild tune.

If you are allowing a cat back exhaust and nothing else though, giving credit where due, the record belongs to WS6JJP with a 12.418 @111.75 and a 12.438 @112.07. The quickest time claimed here yet with such a minimal modification.

Then there is drrichie with 12.422 @113.9 mph completely bone stock with 614 miles on the car.

Sorry I missed those times when I scanned old posts looking for the quickest posted time. I personally have no problem with the cat back cars being tallied with the stock exhaust cars. And tune wise I believe there is actually a difference between cars and possibly build dates. Look how much difference there is in the times posted one goes 114 one goes 109 one 13.50 the next 12.42. I think if you are going to reap the rewards of most C6's it will require a tune.

I am going to US-41 this Saturday with the MFBA so I will post my times on Monday. My car is 100% stock even down to the air filter!

First of all, my C6 truly was bone stock. I thought the other guys had more than just a cat-back, but I'm honestly not sure. I thought he had a cold air intake or something else. Either way, I respect his times.

I actually have an interesting reason myself for going out and beating my own time. As many of you know, the time I ran was in a Z51 coupe I had. I now have a F55 convertible. I have, ahem, "run" a couple of Z51 cars in this car, and have outrun them quite handily. I have some theories on why, but not sure yet. By the way, I do have Bullets on this car, but it is otherwise completely stock. I've even thought about putting the stock exhaust back on to run it - but it's too much of a pain. I'll just accept that if someone wants to handicap me 1/10th and 1 mph for the exhaust, I'm okay with that.

At the track I run at, they have normally let me run my convertible (the '03 I had). But it depends on the night I run, and who's manning the booth. I'm hoping to get a handful of runs in. I hope to get a cool day in the next few weeks and take it out.

It will be interesting to see if people have learned the ins and outs of the C6 and we can get some good runs in to shut the nay-sayers up!

Good luck. Beating 12.4 on stock runflats won't be an easy feat. Its a near miracle that 12.4 on these tires has been done at all.

I let a good friend of mine a member of my club, who drives his completely bone stock daily driver, weather permitting, '03 Z06 to 12.5s and has a best of 12.3, make a pass in my car and he could not break 13 seconds in it. Drove it with AH/TC off. Thats part of what lead me to get it dynoed.

BTW, I was reading elsewhere on the forum that the October issue of Vette magazine had B&B Bullets on a stock C6 making 10.9 more horsepower & 21.5 more ft/lbs of torque.

But either way, let us know how you do at surpassing your previous best.

Yes, I agree that beating that time will be tough. But it's a nice challenge to myself.

I have the Vette magazine you refer to. I really need to get my car dyno'd, but just haven't gotten around to it. But the 10 hp is the reason I will be okay with a 1/10th "handicap".

I was under the impression that a stock C6 with the 6 speed gets around the same E.T.'s as a 02-04 Z06? Or that the Z06 is a tad quicker....

But after reading posts, It seems like a really good time with a 6 gear is 12.4-12.5@112-113. Am I wrong in saying this? I have seen stock Z06's trap at 115-117.

Why the difference in Trap Speed MPH. Cars weigh roughly the same dont they? and they both have around 400chp. So why the diff in the trap speeds?

I understand there is a tire issue with the two cars, but I still dont get why the C6 is only trapping 112-114, where a Z06 has trapped 115-117 by several forum members.

I have a friend in a bone stock 01 Z06 that traps at 114.

Question is why the diff in trap speeds?

Default Bone Stock C6 Coupe

I have not been to the dragstrip to race in some 40 years. Now I have a car that begs to be there. I have been trying to get to Cecil County Maryland Dragstrip for the past two weeks but rain has stopped me. It's raining now. Hoping for next week in a totally stock coupe with 5000 miles. Been practising lauches on my Xbox with FORZA Motorsports in the C6. It's an excellent car race simulator and has a dragstrip simulation. My best simulation has been 12.086. Yesterday tried about 5 launches on the street and the car hooked up very well on asphalt. Seems like RPM at 2000, unload the clutch, fether the throttle for about 20 ft and then wide open seemed to work well. Any recommendations???

First of all, there have been C6's turn 115 trap speeds (mine!). Second, GM's own testing for the Z06 was 12.4 at 116, and for the C6 (six speed Z51) is 12.5 at 115. The Z06 is slightly ligher, and has better tires from the factory for launching. Also, the Z06 carries it's horsepower at the top of the rpm band better than the LS2 engine. That helps in racing situations where you are spending most of your time in the upper RPM ranges. The LS2 has better low and mid range torque - which aren't as important for racing.

Just wondering what your theories are as to ''outrunning'' some z51's and I believe from past posts we could include some z06's as well?

Just my two cents but I am curious as to just what a tune means? I have the cat back exhaust with headers and no tune and have run 12.37 @ 112.29mph. I could have run 12.20's if I really wanted to finish off the tires. The reason I say that is because I could have left the headers off and did an exotic tune on it that would have produced more hp than the headers but I'm not looking to shorten the life on the engine. I have an auto with 3:15 gears. I don't normally race cars I run motorcycles and I've just been playing around with my Vette for fun but we do these tunes on bikes and I could take two identical bikes, one tuned and one not, and there will be a night and day difference in the times the two will run.

I hear ya. There is a guy here,: billywallstreet73, who got a gain on his 05 C6 of 20 some odd rear wheel horsepower with just a tune and nothing else.

So yeah, when you say that a guy can add headers and no tuning, vs a guy with a good, power producing tune and nothing else, and they both wind up producing similar power, I believe you.
