2 X Battery Questions Please.
1. When a battery gets completely discharged due to "dbs" (I'm now on my third AC Delco in my 05 vert) does it shorten the life of the battery even if it's carefully re charged from dead flat at a very low trickle charge?
2. Is it ok to trickle charge the battery using a battery tender with the car's + & - connectors still fastened to the battery terminals?

My '05 had a dead battery the first test drive and again on the second test drive and yet again when I picked the car up 2 days later. One more time a few months ago when it sat for 10 days. The battery was so dead (4.4 Volts on my multi-meter) I had to disconnect the battery terminals to get it to take a charge. That battery is still in the car and still working today after 3 years of use.

I had 3 or 4 episodes of DBS with my early '05, and 2 episodes of stone cold dead due to technician screw ups, and my battery still lasted more than 2 and 1/2 years.
But it's warm where I live, and that might have saved me.

A yellow top Optima is made to take deep discharges. The only issue is that since Optimas have almost pure lead in them, you may need to jumper it off another battery to charge it unless you have a charger designed for AGM.

Thanks for the quick response guys. No I haven't had the flash done as yet. I think I overcharged the second battery! Going to pick up a battery tender today and start using that.

I had serious DBS problems with my '05 w/ manual tranny until I got the software download 'fix' developed by the GM engineers. After that, I never had the problem again. Now have an '08 and have finally started to use a battery tender as the cold weather here in PA with long periods of not being able to drive the Vette have caused battery problems. Tender is attached to terminals that have the cables attached and no problems.
