Default How soon does the Hydraulic Clutch Fluid turn dark?

After changing the hydraulic clutch fluid, how long does it take to turn dark again? A few hundred miles or a few thousand miles? It seems mine turned dark after about 150 miles of driving which were not highway driving but more stop and go in the countryside.

You hadn't flushed it all out. Mine stays clean all the time, but I change it before and after each track day so every month or so.

Flush it out using www.rangeracceleration.com instructions and it should stay clean a pretty long time.

Depends......there is no magic number of miles or time involved. Depends on use and status of your system. Based on what I've seen here over the years I don't think your situation is unusual. Since I don't know how you've maintained yours I'll just suggest maybe doing a Ranger flush every week for awhile and see if it starts taking longer to darken.

In case you don't know about the Ranger method here's the link to his site:

I also use the ranger method, but I still struggle with keeping it clean looking.

I don't bother changing it and haven't had any clutch pedal issues in the 14 years I have owned C5s and C6s.

The fluid was black in our '09 less than a year after we bought it.
I changed the fluid several times using Rangers method and now it stays clean.
No dirty clutch fluid for my car.

I change mine every four to six weeks as an estimate. I just monitor it every time I pop the hood and when it starts turning dark I change it. Such an easy maintenance procedure that it has become routine for me.

Mine turned very dark within the first few weeks of ownership. I flushed it using Rangers method and it turned dark again within days. I continued to flush it over the next two weeks until it remained clear. Now it remains clear for months at a time and I check it when I check oil levels.

My car is new. Every day I drive it, I just change what is in the resivoir before I put it away. It's fast and easy and cheap. Get yours like new and do the same and it will save time and effort. It Costs a fraction of the gas I burn.

I flush mine every time I put gas in it just to keep it clean. I keep a ton of the Prestone Dot 4 brake fluid in my garage..

I think its a waste of time. Just because its dark doesn't mean that somethings wrong with it.
