Default LS2 - more TORQUE needed at 4000 rpm !

Hey guys,

When my warranty runs out next spring I want to tweak my engine a bit. My goal is lots more torque between 3000 rpm and 4000 rpm, to make her JUMP on the highway without always downshifting two or three gears. I am not interested in setting dyno records at 6500 rpm, but have no aversion to high horsepower at the upper rpm ranges. I do want to preserve good street driveability, such as the ability to cruise in any gear from 2nd to 5th at 1500 rpm.

To that end here is my draft plan:

Heads: ported and milled 243’s like the Cartek Stage 2X, for about 11.5 to 1 compression, and dual springs for the upgraded camshaft.

Camshaft:
not too radical. The stock LS2 is 204°/211° - .525”/.525” 116°LSA, so I am looking at something like the Cartek M-cam: 218°/224° - .560”/.560” 114°LSA. Rocker rollers and the correct length pushrods too.

FAST 92 intake manifold ported to the Cartek 2X heads. I already have Cory’s latest ported throttle body.

LG Pro headers
, with cats, ceramic coated, running through the Route 66 mufflers already on my car.

Underdrive pulley and a dyno tune by one of our great Florida tuners.

Note I am NOT looking at the L92-L76 conversion, since I think I will not need the extra flow capacity in my target 3000 – 4000 rpm range. I am also not looking at changing the 3.42 axle in my MN6 car. I like where the gears split right now, and with the extra torque I am planning, steeper gears would be superfluous.

Superchargers are off the table also since I want to go UP in compression, and enjoy the extra fuel economy when my foot is not buried in the firewall.

I welcome and constructive comments and suggestions, and am prepared to ignore any non-helpful replies.

Thanx in advance

How about this?

Show above is stock 2006 M6 Z51 and our bolt on package
  • LG Pro Long Tube headers w/Z06 3" rear pipes
  • Borla Z06 Touring cat back
  • FAST intake (un-ported)
  • HallTech intake
  • LG Dyno Tune

That is before a camshaft or any cylinder head change. There is NO underdrive pulley, NO ported throttle body. 93 pump gas.

If you were wanting to take this one step farther, I might suggest a G5X1 or G5XE camshaft, which focus more on mid-range torque.

Let me know any way I can help!

At 11.5:1 compression, a 224 cam would be better IMO. A 224/228 114 could go in with no advance, have a high DCR and at -2 overlap would have good manners at 1000 rpm. Given your focus on Torque, a reverse split 228/224 114 +2 would do very nicely.

AFR 205 heads would be worth considering too.

Ultimate low end torque = Magnacharger. Anything else is a pretender. Cam/heads etc don't measure up. Expensive, but the results are there. Pulls like a built big inch big block. My MP122 on top of a 6.0L LQ4 in a half ton truck with a few bolt ons will out pull lots of vettes. Thought about adding a maggie to my '08, but didn't want to spend the $.

Thanx, Anthony and Ragtop99. Looks like I am heading in the right direction (for MY needs) and just need to fine-tune (pun intended) my thinking.
