Default Would a mild cam hurt reliability ?

I'm working on the wife for CAI, headers, tune, & gears and was wondering about a cam also. My question is would a mild cam hurt reliability ? I don't drag race or anything but I do drive a lot. Need some feedback please.

I know it will void the warranty blah blah blah.. Not concerned about that thanks..

A mild cam will hurt reliability mildly. Other than putting a little more stress on the drive train due to putting out more power, the only thing you have to worry about are the valve springs. You'll run new springs with your new cam, but with the higher lifts the springs need to be replaced at around 30,000 to 50,000 miles depending on who you listen to.

I ran a pretty mild cam on my 01 Z28 and really liked it. It was a Texas Speed 224R (224/224 duration with .581/.581 lift and 112 LSA). It really woke up the LS1.

Good luck.

30 to 50thousand miles. That sounds reliable to me. My cam goes in next week. Cant wait.

Check out the GM LS3 Hot Cam. It only have .525 lift and can be used with stock springs and IIRC, if installed at the dealer keeps the warranty alive.

I was thinking the same for my 06 z51. Just not sure if its worth it, ie increase hp, tq and sound. Also, will a tune be necessary? A CAI and header would be part of the deal

When I had my 99 SS Camaro, I didn't install a cam until it had 85K miles on it! Then, all I replaced was the chain, valve springs and oil pump o-ring, thats it. Then at 93K, I installed CNC'd Patriot heads and a different cam. That car still runs perfect today with 113K on it.

I have a fully modded C6 now as my DD that I drive every other day.

Other than valve springs, no worries.

It increases hp on an LS3 by 50 hp (engine dyno). I don't know much about it, though I hear that the dealer has some sort of canned tune they use.

Staying n/a your motor will last a while. The reliability will stay pretty high. Ive had a cam for a year now and havent had a single issue. If you put good springs and do your regular maintanence it will go forever.

Default Safety Factor

Ask for dual valve springs. That will give you a SF.

Will definately need a tune. You would want to do that anyway to get everything dialed in.
