You can upgrade to DOT 4 if you want to. Depends on how you use the car if this will be beneficial or not.

My owner's manual states DOT 4 for the clutch.

Hydraulic Clutch Fluid. Use only GM
Part No. U.S. 88958860, in Canada
88901244, Super DOT-4 brake fluid
.

Your manual says DOT4 for clutch and DOT3 for brakes.

Thanks all I sucked out the fluid in the clutch resevoir and filled it with dot 3. I have not ran the car yet so I hope im fine, im going to get rid of that dot 3 and fill it with dot4. Any name brand suggested besides gm that I could get from my local auto parts store. thanks again.

The owner's manual may say to use DOT-3 for the brakes and DOT-4 for the clutch but the recommended replacement fluid GM #88958860 is labeled "Brake and Clutch Fluid Super DOT-4." If they really want DOT-3 for the brakes you think they'd recommend and list a DOT-3 fluid.

I use Motul 600. Not all auto parts stores carry Motul but if you call around you'll likely find it. To purge the DOT 3 fluid which I assume you 'circulated' through the system many times, you'll need to drain, circulate and re-fill the fluid (with DOT 4) multiple times. I'd repeat the cycle a dozen times or more. For normal street driving I'd also recommend Prestone DOT-4.

I'm running that now. Didn't see the Motul in two autoparts stores in my area.

This confuses me too! My brake master cylinder cap clearly says DOT 3 brake fluid. Perhaps there are some GM cars that do use DOT 4 brake fluid, thus the 88958860 part?

Same here in New England can't find Motul any other brands? Or should I just pick up the GM fluid at the dealer.
