Xylene (Xylol) + 93 Octane makes Race Fuel?
A guy who runs a stroked BMW and is a former Race Car Driver told me today that by mixing 93 Octane with Xylene 10:1 makes 110 Octane race fuel. Is this true?
If it is, could this be a way around running meth, or does using this solvent not make the charge cooler?

Water/alcohol/meth injection is completely different than adding chemicals to your fuel to add octane. Fluids injected into your intake cool the charge as they're cooler than the compressed air/fuel mixture from your turbo/supercharger. Compressing from the turbo/supercharger heats the air/fuel mixture. That's why you have intercoolers. I don't think the xylene will "cool" your fuel.

It is nothing like meth used in that manner.
1. It will not cool intake temps.
2. It is corrosive and will eventually eat away at fuel system seals and lines.
It will raise octane rating, but I'm not sure if the 10:1 ratio gives you that octane rating.

Sorry a simple myth, because if was true lots of people would be all over it.

I don't know whether it is or isn't. I do know that I had no problems with my fuel system on my 738rwhp Tahoe for 4 years. After adding Xylene to the tank for 6 months I developed leaking seals and had to replace numerous parts. I was informed that this was due to the corrosive nature of xylene. Formaldihide (sp?) is a component found in cigarettes. Try adding a little more and see where that gets you.

Not that I need the extra octane, my curiosity had more to do with the cooling of the charge and San put it perfectly.
I wanted to believe the guy who told me about the octane boost, the cooler charge thing was all me....
Thanks guys!

I would use Toluene rather than Xylene.Xylene is used in a lot of solvents. We use Toluene in all the Sunoco Gasoline and Race Fuels for octane boost. I have never seen xylene used in gasoline. I ran the Gasoline blending system for Sunoco for many years and Toluene was always used in the higher octane fuels. Too much can burn your valves, so be careful. Good luck
