Default Oil pressure 130 psi

I had changed my oil and within 2 hours after leaving the shop the pressure topped out the guage and on my dash it said it is at 130 psi. Why is this and is this Bad?

If it's real, yes it's bad. But it could be like the old joke, what time is it when the clock reads 13 o'clock. Answer: time to get your clock fixed. Hopefully it's just the sender or the gage. If it's real, pressure that high could cause you to spin a bearing. Definitely take it in to a shop to get it looked at, or to the dealer if it's under warranty.

You didnt give us the full story. What happened after it spiked? Did you shut it down and didnt restart? Did it go down on its own? Is it still at 130psi?......

We need some more details. If the components inside the oil pump were installed incorrectly this can happen. Ive seen it on several cars.

Its likely a coincidence and the cheap oil presser sending unit/sensor in the back top of the motor needs to be be changed. Its more common than most would think.

One other thing bothers me about this one. It happened right after an oil change. If it were me, I'd swap out the oil filter. It's easy to do. Maybe it came apart inside and is completely blocked???

Access to replace the factory sensor is a pain.

I've seen a couple of better options. This is one, can't find the other which is better IMO as it places the new sensor near the alternator.

mine coincidentally started reading higher after a brake bleed.
i think you can check the oil pressure sender by turning the ignition on without turning on the engine (hold the bottom part of start button for few seconds).

if your oil pressure reads high even without the engine running, it's supposed to be the malfunctioning oil pressure sender.
i verified mine acted this way before i replaced the OPS, so it works for testing out your OPS.

Maybe the shop put in 16 quarts instead of only 6?
That would cause a bit of a jump in psi.
