Default 07 c6 Z51 oil capacity

I just had my oil changed (first time since I bought the car) and the shop (non dealer) put in 8 quart. The car has sat for 2 days and the dip stick shows well beyond full. What is the proper Z51 capacity?
No owners manual with my car.

6 quarts. Overfilling can cause oil to foam and breakdown.

Drain out 2 Qts before starting it again and then proceed to shop that did this and tear them a new one!

100%

C6 Z06s (LS7) take 8 quarts I believe but not the base (LS2/LS3) cars.

Next time it might be better to find a shop that knows how to change your oil, better yet would be to do it your self. Hopefully, they used Mobile One 5-W30. Anything else is unacceptable, IMHO.

I agree, mostly. There are other oils I would consider acceptable (Redline & Amsoil).

I hear were you are coming from and I'm sure you came to that conclusion after some thorough research. However, the OP is a newbe and doesn't even know how may quarts of oil are required (no dis, we were all there at one time). I felt it was best to stick with the factory recommendations until he is ready to decide for himself.

Yea my 05' Z51 ended up needed 6 quarts after it had a chance to cycle, the oil cooler is the extra .5 quarts over the base 5.5 qts. I used Royal Purple and Pepboys has a special going on right now as well 5 qts (so you have to buy one extra) and the RP filter for 39.99 till july 4th. At least thats the special in the Dallas, TX area.

better just do it yourself, went to the dealership for my first oil change and they put in 7qts, i went back to complain and they tried to explain that my 07 c6 z51 had an Ls6 (400hp) and needed 7qts. they also lifted my car with out pucks imo some dealers are no better than these quick lube places

Default 2 quarts two much

Well they drained out the extra two quarts and refunded me$21.00 from the bill which had been $69.00 dollars which made it a $48.00 oil change. They also gave me a credit for a free full synthetic oil change next time.
Now to the cause for the problem. THOSE DAMM Z51 EMBLEMS! They thought it was a Z06 which takes 8 quart.
As for the oil Brand it was Kendall Titanium full synthetic and is on the approved list. I see it also fairs very well in testing compared to other brands.

having z51 emblems was not a problem, but lazy techs who assume emblem = z06 is

Default Change oil yourself if you can

I see you are a new poster.... great to see you kept them honest!
As soon as you can, set yourself up to change the oil yourself... it's a bonding thing with the car and it's easy to do... lots of posts to show you how here on the forum... I have the same car you do and I put
5 1/2 to 6 quarts in and then check the level.... don't forget to fill the filter before putting it on... with a filter it will take up to 6 1/2 quarts

I've only used Mobil 1 in my Corvette, mostly because it was "packing" Mobil 1 from the factory and it's usually on sale for a good price. I personally wouldn't have any problem using a high-quality oil (Redline, Amsoil, etc) that wasn't on GM's list.

That's no excuse.....just means that they didn't even check the dip stick after the oil change. Management of the shop appears to be doing the right thing, but their shop techs need more training or supervision.
