Default Stock intake silencer delete???

Has anyone done this? If so can you provide pictures or information on what you used to plug it. For right now, before I possibly get a vararam for my ls3, I would like to delete this ugly air silencer thing from the intake. I did it on my mach 1 and my truck. Has anyone done this? I think its unnecessary and doesnt look very good. Would prefer a cleaner looking intake like the one that the ls2 has.

You can pick up used Z06 air breathers pretty cheap. The Z06 breather doesn't have silencer.

Good idea but looking to spend zero dollars on this. Im thinking I can just cut it off and plug it with something like i've done in the past. Just wondering if someone else has done a similar thing.

Hoping for something a little better looking or more reliable. Some sort of plug, then maybe duct tape to ensure it stays on. Thanks.

just wrap all the way around and overlap the ends, it will seal better than a plug, till you get your new intake. one thing you don't want is to suck in dust around a plug which may or may not fit just right

Agreed. Do you have experience with doing this?

No I'll just wait until I can install a Callaway honker, with the donaldson air intake chevy is using I probably won't pickup much (hp) any how but when you remove the intake there will be a big hole to use for cleaning out the radiator!

Go to the local hardware store and pick up a 1 1/2 quick cap in the plumbing dept. Cut he silencer leaving enough of the tube to slide the cap on and secure with a hose clamp.

What does cutting it off do to sound or performance?

It is a Helmholtz resonator, (1/4 wave tuner). It helps to silence the vibrations in the intake system. Removing the tuning chamber will increase the induction noise. I do not believe this will affect the engine performance.

Measure the OD where you want to cut it, go to your local building supply store and find a PVC pipe cap the right size and glue it on. Maybe paint it black to match?

I did do this a few weeks ago. I took a hacksaw and sawed off the silencer and simply plugged it with something I found laying around the house (painted it black to blend in). Looks much cleaner now than having that stupid plastic tube coming out of the air bridge. Obviously there was no power increase (SOTP), and I dont think I notice any extra intake noise, but it does look much cleaner and the car runs completely the same, no codes and it definitely couldnt have hurt. I'll post pictures if you'd like. I'd say its a must do free mod just for kicks.
