AMSOIL is even better then Mobil1. After years of thinking that M1 was good oil, I decided to do some research and found out that it really is not that great. They are the factory fill for GM, Dodge, Mercedes and other cars simply because they won the bid, not because they are the best oil offered. The ASMOIL products are much better and will allow for increased intervals and increased protection.

If you want recommendations on what types to run or have any questions on the AMSOIL product, feel free to shoot me a PM.

Mobil 1. You can check but i don't think the "Extended performance" meets the G.M. 4718M spec. which any oil Has to meet to be used in Vettes.

Everyone has their opinions on oil. Been going on for decades who is better.

Mobil 1 is the only oil i use because it is a proven performer. GM warrants the engine 5 years or 100,000 miles and uses/recommends Mobil 1. Good enough for me.

I used amsoil oil for a couple of months on my ls1 trans am. I also got the amsoil brochure and it stated that penzoil platnium was almost right next to it as far as viscosity and wear is concerned. So that is what I bought at wal-mart.

If you are going to use Mobil 1, be sure to buy the one that is labeled for GM 4718M applications. Otherwise you might choose to use AMSOIL like so many of the rest of us do. I personally like their Product ASL which is 15k severe service/25k normal service 5W-30. I think AMSOIL ASL or their top of the line Signature Series 0W-30 are the products to use to meet GM 4718M if you consider AMSOIL. JMHO.

Never had an oil related issue using Mobil One.

The only reason the new Gold Cap Mobil One Extended performance doesn't have the GM spec listed on it is simply because Mobil hasn't formally submitted it to be tested for the GM spec. It actually has a superior additive pack to regular silver cap Mobil One.

Question:
Explain Why Mobil 1 Extended Performance Not GM4718M Certified
Can you please explain the difference between GM6049M and GM4718M? I have read several answers on this site that state that using the extended performance Mobil 1 will work just as well as regular Mobil 1. I just want to understand what is different between the two specs, and what about the extended performance does not allow it to be GM4718M certified. Thanks, Clint
-- Clint Kline, Anderson, IN

Answer:
GM 6094M is based on the same specifications as ILSAC GF-4 but additionally includes some specific GM requirements. GM 4718M is the GM high performance oil specification that goes well beyond the industry standard ILSAC GF-4 and API SM specifications. The Mobil 1 grades that carry GM 4718M have been fully approved and tested against GM 4718M. The companion Mobil 1 Extended Performance viscosity grades have not been formally approved against GM 4718M but will provide the performance at GM 4718M level. Engine testing required to get formal approval is limited to certain Mobil 1 products only.

Amsoil is the best but I don't know if it's worth the extra cost under normal conditions. Mobil 1 is good enough unless you go to the track alot. If that's the case, you'll need to change any oil regularly.

Pretty funny how someone only asks about two different Mobil 1 products and gets a totally unrelated(to OP) and unsolicited sales pitch for another product.

I agree completely, and I use Amsoil. Luckily I buy tons of amsoil products for work and can buy the oil for my stuff too.

I sell both, along with Royal Purple, Red Line and others. I like to have a wide variety for our customers, but nearly everyone will agree that AMSOIL is superior to the rest.

I think that you are reading into this a bit too much.

I am a paying vendor on here, which is one of the reasons that everyone can cruise around and get so much cool info for free. In short, I pay a substantial cost every month to offer my services on here for a wide variety of things including GM parts, service work, warranty work, oils etc.... The dealership offers all brands to our many Corvette customers so that everyones brand is covered when they come in here for maintenance on their vehicles.

With that being said, I would be happy to sell Mobil1, AMSOIL, Red Line or any other brand of lubrication product I stock to anybody. In fact, I actually make less profit on the AMSOIL product, but choose to push it more then any other because it is far superior to the rest. Hope that clears it all up for ya!

OK, if you say so. You're a good man to educate someone on the finer points of Amsoil by PM.

I have a friend in the business and his mark up on Amsoil is quite a bit more than Mobil 1. He sells hundreds of Qts of the stuff online all over the Country as do many vendors.
