Noisy Targa Roof Panel REPAIR!
Noisy Targa Roof Panel REPAIR!
Ive had a problem with my targa roof panel ever since I had the targa roof replaced due to the delimitation recall that was performed several years back. It’s been to the dealer under warranty several times and no resolve was ever rendered. It's become just one of those things that you learn to live with but still hate.
I went to Carlisle a few weeks ago and attended Paul Koerner’s C5/C6 Tech Lecture. In that lecture he mentioned the roof panel noise and that GM has a 26 PAGE TSB that details the repair. Paul stated that he bet a dollar the cause of the noise is loose locating pins on the roof panel.
So,,I removed the roof, and checked the pins. Sure as hell ALL FOUR were loose. I tightened them, reinstalled the roof and took the car for a drive and NO MORE NOISE!
If you have roof panel noise, check the pins and make sure that there not loose and apply a little silicone grease. It solved my roof noise issue.
So,,, the NEXT time I see Paul, he will get my dollar! Well DONE Paul!
(EDIT UpDate) Fantastic link for ROOF NOISE:

No problem. There are TWO locating pins on the rear of the top that get inserted into the to locationg holes horzoltaly on the top halo bar & there are TWO small pins on the front that insert verticaly into the windshield header.
Use a 15mm wrench and tighten them. Each pin will have a hex for the 15mm wrench. I will look up the torque that they need tightened to to be later tonight when I get home.
