I found it gave me just a slight bit more slack and ability to straighten the angle by removing the large center holding clip altogether. It's held on by one 10mm nut. It's not too bad to get off using a 1/4" drive air ratchet.
Getting the clip back on afterwards isn't the easiest thing but I still found it was the better thing to do to help get the angle right when installing the crossover tube back into the tank.

I did this job twice with mine too since I didn't get the internal tubes routed correctly and they interfered with the gauge sending unit arm on my first attempt.
Both times I totally removed the clip and both times I had no trouble at all getting the crossover tube slipped into the tank.

Btw, I told myself no matter what I ran into with this job, I wouldn't lose my temper. This just is a royal pain and takes all your patience. Even when I realized after my first attempt that the tank was going to have to come back out again, I wasn't mad. Certainly not thrilled though.

Once you get this, hopefully you will feel the satisfaction of having done it yourself. I sure do.

One more tip. Lube all the o-rings. I used Super Lube synthetic grease.
Lube the metal portion of the crossover tube that fits into the tank and the snouts on the two internal tubes too.

I can confirm you can pull both tanks without lowering the suspension on an automatic transmission. I finished pulling both tanks this afternoon. I ruined one of the small o-rings. Does anyone know what the part number is for them? time to work on the rest of the work while I find them. Thanks for the great write-up.

MANY THANKS to Motorhead-47 for this write-up and the fotos !

the most important thing doing this work is understanding how things are put together !
without this thread I would not have been successfull doing it.

I have a 2008 LS3 with automatic transmission.
I did the job together with a friend who is a mechanic and both of us did it the first time.

again MANY THANKS to Motorhead-47 !!

Yes, the job sucks.... and autos are worse. Take the auto trans out of the car.... Way easier.

I have a bunch of low mileage used fuel pumps left over from the many E-Force jobs we did here over the years.

$120. shipped to the lower 48 states for anyone that wants one.

I just did my 2013 with a auto and it was not bad at all. just need to remove the drive side exhaust. My locking ring tab was at the bottom so all I used was a long flat head to pop it loose. Unbolting the shifter linkage from the transmission helps a lot. I did it on jack stands.

IMO it really depends on how well the lines inside the crossover tube come apart. If they come apart normally and everything pulls right off then it's really not bad. But, if the lines inside the tube are stuck and pull out with the tube it can be a royal PITA to get them disconnected without breaking anything with the very limited space that there is to work with while the transmission is in

So, yeah, just depends. I've had it go both ways..

Hi Chuck you are a great guy I changed my gas pump and found that if I move the intake manifold forward about an inch to keep it from limiting how much I can lower the cradle assembly I can just lay on top of the diff and trany to man handle the cross over tube with ease with out removing my auto trany and going true that extra mess, hope this helps someone all the best Dave.
