Default LS3 heads with RPM cam...results!!!

Just finished getting the car tuned after doing my heads/cam installation. A big thanks goes out to Charlie @ RPM Motors for all the tech support and knowledge he provided. Even after having problems reading my car thru the OBD II port he still managed to get it tuned. I would highly recommend him to anyone.

I wish I would've dynoed the car prior to the installation but I was in a hurry and on a tight budget. Prior to the install the car was a full "bolton car" with 3.90 gears.

Here's what went in...
LS3 61cc heads w/ Patriot springs
Stock GM LS3 head gaskets
LS3 manifold ported by myself
ARP bolts
RPM ZZ-014 Cam
NGK TR55 plugs
RPM pushrods
Installed by myself and Tuned by Charlie

The shop conditions were and about 68degrees with 80% humidity.

Car made 481.3RWHP/430.5RWTQ thru 3.90 gears with a conservative tune. These are what I call "real world numbers"...meaning that the car was put on the dyno right after being driven around. So the car was nice and heat soaked, just like in everyday situations. Charlie said he could've squeezed more out of her but we opted not to. I rather sacrifice a few ponies for reliability. The car feels real strong anywhere in the RPM range. I took it for a drive and all I have to say is DAMNNNN!!! The car breaks loose the 345 INVOs in 3rd gear with no problem. Dyno numbers are nice but to me what matters is what the time slips say. I'll be heading to the local 1/8th mile track next wk so I'll post my results.

Thanks goes out to Spin for renting me the LS3 head/flycutter.

UPDATE
Well guys I finally found time to take the car to the 1/8th mile track for some real world results. Since my car is not caged up I had to save my full WOT pass for the end in case they kicked me off. I was able to get 4 runs which one of them being WOT all the way down. My only full pass netted me a 7.05 @ 101.94 MPH with a 1.56 60ft.

I know the car wasn’t running at 100%. The car had fouled plugs due to the valve seals needing to be replaced. I’m getting a bunch of oil in the chambers. I’m currently replacing the seals right now so I’ll be heading back out next Thursday. Hopefully the weather gets a little better. The temps were around 83 degrees with 60% humidity.

Daniel - Some very impressive numbers. Charlie @ RPM Motors is definitely one of the best Corvette tuners!

+1 on rough cam specs.

How many cc's are the flycuts? Tuned for 91 octane?

Did you use your LS2 injectors and rails?

Great results Sparo Can't go wrong with Charlie.

How's she drive around town?

I'll be watching for those times! It's going to feel different to you at the track. I had to launch higher with the cam, if it falls below 3500 it'll bog, you might find the same thing. I also had to remove my clutch pedal spring when I put in the cam or the pedal would stick down.

Keep us posted!

Default Ls2

Just to make sure - You have an LS2 as well? If so, I will follow in your foot steps.

Keep in mind that at these power levels, 3.90 gears lower the dyno result by about 10/10 so your true numbers are 490/440 in comparison to other cams. Charlie's work has always been top shelf.

Enjoy the new power. I bet its like a new car all over again.

Tomiboy...
Cam specs are classified...sorry guys. I can tell you this though. It's a very street friendly cam with the right tune. However, it's not a baby cam by any means. It's a MANS cam. With the cutouts closed it sounds almost like a stock C6 and with the cutouts open it's sounds like a pure muscle car. LOVE IT!!!!

Ragtop 99....
The flycuts were made .070" for the INT and .060" for the EXH. I wanted plenty of PTV clearance.

The car was tuned for the crappy 91 octane we have here in Cali. Future plans call for a 2nd tune for 108octane. This way I can go to the track and upload a 2nd tune which will take advantage of the race fuel. Then before I leave just reinstall the street tune and drive home.

Timd38...
I used the LS3 injectors and fuel rails. I could've used the LS2 stuff but my LS3 intake manifold cam complete with everything.

PeOR...
The engine is a 6.0 LS2.

Joe...
One the way back from Charlie's the car was very tame. It was fun doing some WOT pulls on the fwy. She pulls like a ****. I'm thinking the car will do between 10.5s-10.8s at the 1/4 mile track or around 6.7s-.6.8s at the 1/8th mile.

Spin...
She definitely feels like a different car. She revs like a 4cyl so I have to be careful and nail ever shift. Thanks again for the help.

Those are the best numbers I've seen out of the LS3 Heads and Intake combo on LS2's.

As soon as I get some finances sorted out I'm going to install a ported 102mm FAST manifold, RPM Motors CNC ported heads and a race tune.

Any guesses???

That looks really good. Did Charlie happen to say anything to you about your compression being too high for 91 octane? He didn't mill mine when I got his cnc'd heads.
I don't think you'll gain too much from ported heads. IMO most of the gains are from compression. The intake should help a lot.

Why was it necessary to fly cut? I didn't think that would be necessary with the stock LS3 heads especially with stock gaskets.

He described the heads as being 61 cc so they were most likely milled.

Did you do the install yourself Daniel? Anything to share there (pics, troubles to be aware of, etc.)?

Is this confirmed? I've seen/read this many times but I've never seen any real data to back it up. Do 4.10s offer an even greater dyno loss reading?

Great power! Would a different set of heads be economical at this point considering you already went with the LS3s? How much power do you think you'd make over your current heads?
