Difference between intake ports on stock LS3 heads vs Trickflow
Is there a difference in the intake port between the stock LS3 head and the aftermarket Trickflow heads?
From the pictures I've seen, the LS3 head looks like a rectangle, while the Trickflow LS3 head is the cathedral shape--if there's a difference, how would a stock intake manifold or aftermarket FAST manifold bolt up to them?
Am I missing something? It looks like that fast manifold would not be utilizing the complete intake port--or am I just way off base.
Help a noob understand
Thanks so much

You are correct the tfs heads are cathedral port and the ls3 heads are rectangular. FAST sells two seperate intake manifolds one for the rectangular port heads and another for cathedral heads so make sure you get the right one. I believe TFS is in the process of releasing new rectangular port heads for the ls3.

The pic you have is not an LS3 head.

*69cc chambers
*4.00" minimum bore
*12 degree Valve angle
*Must run LS7 Rockers

Well you are not comparing apples to apples when comparing a cathedral port head to a rectangular port head. TFS currently does not offer a rectangular port syle LS3/LS7 head. A cathedral port style head is going to give you more low to mid range torque and power but that also depends on the size of the port. The bigger the port the more top end power you will get. The retangular port will flow more air and provide you more top end power.

I was just trying to gain an understanding of what people meant when they said LS3 head. I was under the impression that the stock head and aftermarket head, if they were for an LS3, would use the same intake ports and essentially be the same, save for different sizes and porting.
This is obviously not the case and now I know and as G.I. Joe said--knowing is half the battle
