Default Base C6 Drag Wheel/Tire Options

Hey guys,
I have a base 08 C6 and I'm going to a track rental and want to buy wheels and tires to use. I'm not sure what size wheels/tires to buy and I'm looking for some advice. I was thinking about buying some replicas from Bobs house of wheels and mounting some radials on them since I can't seem to find anything to fit on my stock gumby 19's. Just wondering what the best options are. Thanks in advance guys.

M6/A6? How much power? Strip only or do you want to drive them on the street too?

It's an A6 bone stock at the moment...I had it at the strip with the runflats on shen first got it and spun alot...I would just be using them for the track...I'm planning on headers intake and a tune soon

Something like some R888's in a 305/30r19 would do the trick. Fit well on stock C6 rims. Excellent handling tire too. Just a little squirrelly in the rain.

There is a tire that will fit on there, the Mickey Thompson 305-35-19 drag radial but it's really too tall for your set up and they're VERY expensive. You can likely get a set of wheels AND tires in 17" (especially if you buy a used set) for what those 19" tires cost by themselves.
Most of us use 17s or 18s but either one will work. Used C5 front wheels with a 275-40-17 drag radial (any brand name should work with your current set up) or even C5 rear wheels with a 265-40-18, 275-35-18, 295-35-18 or even a 305-35-18 tire on them can work too.

There are lots of C4 9.5x17 wheels with some at real low prices. Salad Spinners and Sawblades are both readily available. Non-show quality can be had for $30-50 each and at 22-23 lbs are lighter than repos.

Some things to remember.
Lighter is quicker
Spinning is slower
Abort a run if it goes bad
There are no bonus points on a timeslip for style or appearance

Pick up a set of 17x8.5 or 17x19.5 repros or C5 fronts. The front C5 Z06 rims are 9.5" and the base are 8.5" wide. Either one will fit a 275/40/17 drag radial. Currently Mickey Thompson, Hoosier and M&H all make a tire in that size. My reccomendation would be the mickey. They will easily handle stock power and can be driven to and from the track. I ran a 12.4 with a 1.89 60' when my car was tune only on the Mickey. On a stock car I found it bet to stall the car on the foot brake until it starts to push through the brake and back off a couple hundred rpms. Keep it there till the last yellow and let off the brake.

I have a set of repro 17x8.5 C6 Z06 wheels to match my 18" fronts.

I'm looking to improve traction, right now running at low boost
710 and 660 to tire, rear tire size 325x19x12 and burn all through gears to 120mph on nitto invo's. would really like to hear some feed back on the r888 or should I just go down in rim size to a 15 or 17 inch

If staying with 19s, go to the MT ET Street SS in the 325s. They hook fairly well for me at 750whp. Not very stable at 1/2 mile events, though. Night and day from Invos.

It all depends on what your intended use is and the size wheel you're using. The MTs work great for the street on my C6Z. Won't last much more than 5k miles, but they hook well. For a dedicated drag set up, I would go with a smaller rim and M&H or MT drag radials. For more stability, go with Nitto DRs or R888s. Suspension and alignment also contribute to getting traction. Zero or slightly positive camber in the rear, better adjustable shocks, and a stiffer sway bar will all help.

Top set is 345/35/18 after thee widebody conversion on MT ET Street ss and they hook but hurt the power from being much heavier than the bottom picture 315/35/17 MT ET Street.

To me the 315/35/17 is a good tire and hooks well ~650rwhp, it's once you get above that 700 mark you need the wider tire.

I assume you still run with TPMS. I was wondering how low can you go before it sets a flat tire? I'm looking at doing similar, some say it is OK without sensors but I'm not so sure.

Best option is a 15" wheel with MiCkey Thompson et street ss 275/60/15 imo
It's just expensive lol





Personally running drag radials on a 19" and running the 275/60/15
I'll never waste time again with 19s. I might try going to a 28" 17" wheel/tire combo but the 15" is the best imo

I see nothing in that size or use at Hoosier.
Although Hoosiers IMHO do hook best at the strip, they don't last very long on the street.
