Default Thoughts on amsoil vs redline vs gm trans fluid?

I am about to change the trans fluid in my manual grand sport and wondered what people thought. I switched my C5 over to amsoil and there was a noticeable improvement in shift feel. Has anyone tried redline or amsoil in the 6060?

I had my fluid changed some months ago with the Redline stuff. I did not notice any difference in shift or other behavior.

That being said, I did not know the condition of the fluid and changed it because it was a used car. Turned out the old fluid came out was pristine. Someone must have changed it before.

Other concern was I dropped the pan to change the fluid and filter. Only replaced about 6 quarts of fuild this way. A fluid exchange might have been better but it was poo-pooed on this forum.

Going from GM to Royal Purple, I noticed much improved shifting. I recently went to Amsoil and can't feel much difference (if any) between it and RP. So both of them were a step above the GM fluid.

FWIW, I track (road course) my car so it sees about the worst conditions out there.

I changed to Redline and noticed a big improvement in the way it shifted.

In fact, I ended up changing all of my cars to Redine because of the improvement I saw in the Corvette.

Thanks for the input! I have a local amsoil dealer so I may just get that done again though it would be interesting to try out redline or rp. Do you think 1500 miles is too soon to switch to a better fluid?

Yes. Wait a year or so. If the tranny gives you any signs of an issue, swap sooner. Otherwise it's a waste of money IMO.

That is too soon. Wait until at least 5000 miles before changing tranny fluid. The Forum's resident mechanic in the early days, C4C5Specialist, made that recommedation here many years ago.

No harm done at all doing it early, but it's better to wait at least 1K miles to flush out break-in wear and assembly deposits. Gears area pretty well meshed by then. I'm going to do it soon, around 3K miles; don't like the notchiness and 'crunching' (1-2 shift) when cold. By the way, with the car still under warranty, I highly recommend using a 'Dexron III' compatible ATF fluid, which is what GM calls for. I'm leaning towards Mobil1 synthetic ATF fluid (Dexron III compatible). I don't believe RP synchromax is an ATF fluid, but could be wrong; need to find out for sure if it's Dexron III compatible. Redline MTL is NOT an ATF fluid for sure; you need D4-ATF from them for the Vette. And one of Amsoil's fluid is Dexron III compatible, but forgot the name. Don't want to risk my tranny warranty by not using a Dexron-III fluid myself, since it could be an uphill battle with GM.

I think the amsoil is dexron iii compatible but I'll have to check. I don't like the way it shifts (way too notchy) so that is my motivation for switching. I know it's a waste of $ I just want to make sure it won't damage anything .

Hey, just to be clear, Dexron III is for MANUAL transmissions. If you have an auto, you'll have to check your manual. It probably calls for Dexron VI, which is a different fluid. Good luck.

Yep, it's an MN6 so I think it takes dexron iii. I'll look into it to make sure though.

Recommend you stay with the proven AMSOIL Torque-Drive® Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATD). Meets and exceeds the specifications of Dextron III. 'Subdriver' can really weigh-in if you need more detailed and/or specific information/specs.

Default Amsoil

Call them to verify. Amsoil products are excellent! Have used in all vehicles Harleys, Vettes, and Ford turbo diesels for years, NEVER a problem.

I gave amsoil a call and they recommended the torque-drive fluid as well so I've got an appointment this friday to get it changed!

Yes, this is the recommended fluid for the T6060 (and is a Dexron III spec fluid), same fluid I've been using in my T56 at the track for years:
AMSOIL Torque-Drive Synthetic Transmission Fluid (Product Code ATD1G)

More than happy to get AMSOIL products for forum members at dealer wholesale pricing, about 25% below retail, via the AMSOIL Preferred Customer Program. Drop me a PM if interested.

Thanks! I'll hold onto your info for the next oil change. I've been debating going with wither amsoil z-rod or one of the redline products. I just filled it with the mobil1 0-40 euro formula so it will be a while until I need the next change.

if you dropped the pan and changed the filter, you have an auto transmission. The OP is asking about fluid for a manual transmission.
