Default Battery Hold Down

Just replaced my Delco battery in my 06 with the Optima Red Top. I noticed that even though it's the battery Optima specs for the application it's smaller than the OEM battery and hence too small for the existing hold down. Anyone out there run into this problem? Can you recommend a replacement hold down that will work?

I read on bugmanweb over the years that the Optima's (at least the yellow tops) come with (or maybe used to come with) new clamps.

Take a look at the site, when you get there click on "Corvette" or the "C6 Emblem" then click on "Battery-Optima" in the yellow pane on the left.

I bought a yellow top, and it did not come with any new clamps, but it seemed to fit in the space and tightened with no issues.

Push the clamp toward the battery as you tighten it and it should work fine..

I am assuming that it is a 75/25 or a 35.

The T5 battery that came in your car is 175MM wide and the one you replaced it with is 170MM, but the hold down works fine. I have one in my car.

I ran into that problem when I went to my first autocross. The previous owner installed a Napa battery that was not the same size as the OEM and decided to toss the hold down. No battery hold down means a failed tech inspection. They gave me a one-time pass since it was pretty tightly held in the rear compartment and I still had my temp license plate on the car.

To solve, I bought a piece of aluminum bar stock and made a new hold down that fit correctly. It ain't going anywhere, now.

Bought a red top a while ago. Even with all the plastic snap on hold down things that came with it . I could not get it to lock down to my satisfaction. Took it back for a Sears Platinum.
