Default LPE GT-19 Cam Smog Legal???

Just wondering if anyone running the GT-19 cam has made it through a sniffer test?? Car would be registered in Illinois. Friend with a 2007 Z06 wants a cam with a lope but still emissions legal which I think is going to be a problem in that emissions unfriendly state!!

if it has to pass new OBD 2 regulations that came into effect 1/1/13 in many jurisdictions it will not pass if the tune has been altered from stock or has headers on car. check my previous posts on this

I have a cam that is slightly smaller (228/232 @ 115) and I have headers, high flow cats and tuned. I just came back from smogging my car like 30 minutes ago. Passed no problems. Sniff test and OBDII. And I am in California.

Thanks for all of your replies. I think he may be better off with just a good air intake system and a tune..........never can tell what the Illinois smog police will come up with next!

if that was a legitimate smog test how did it pass the visual with the headers installed and cats not in factory location? there is no sniff test here with the new regulations. plugs into your ecm and if anything changed in tune or turned off = instant fail. regulations here are supposed to be identical to California. with our old sniff test cars with cam would pass.

Yes we have the same test in California now. I spoke to the smog tech about the new smog laws and he told me that it hooks up to the OBDII, reads something and sends that info to the state's computer. It will pass/fail you depending on what it reads.

I was slightly worried about the visual since he was actually looking through the car fairly good. But headers are really hard to see in corvettes and my corvette sits pretty low so he would have to really try hard to find the cats.

I can't tell you everything the computer check does or how it decides to pass/fail someone. But obviously just having an aftermarket tune does not automatically fail you.
