Default Fuel pressure

Is the fuel system on my ls2 pressurized after the engine is shut down? If so does it eventually bleed down? I want to change the rails and don'want fuel spraying all over.
Thanks

Absolutely it is pressurized after shut down! As for bleed down...eventually it will but it could take a week or more to hit 0 psi.

There should be a schrader valve on the drivers side fuel rail to release the pressure.

Also, there's a reverse flow check valve in the fuel pump assembly that's supposed to help maintain line pressure. However I've seen the line bleed down just after a short amount of time on an older pump assemblies. Fortunately when you press the ignition button the pump should immediately repressurize the line prior to crank if needed.

Thanks, thats the info I needed. If I open the Schrader valve and the system is still pressurized will there be a lot of fuel spray, will a rag held in front of it be adequate to handle the spray.

I usually just place a folded rag under the end of the fuel rail and unscrew/remove the valve stem. Fuel will just trickle out rather than spray.

Once again thanks, now I'll feel more confident about working on the rails.

There is so little pressure left after the car sits overnight that you can put a rag under the valve and catch what little fuel comes out. Very little fuel and very low pressure.
