'05 Z51 Leaf Spring Cracked
I bought this car about 1.5 years ago with 27k miles on it from Peducah KY. While doing oil changes and such, I had noticed this area of the spring was a bit porous but I didn't think anything of it.
When I went under the car yesterday to change the oil again (now at 50k miles in PacNW) I noticed this!!!
I'm going to replace the leaf spring but I thought I'd post on here and get any thoughts, has anyone else seen this happen?
Thanks,
Dan

It's happened to a few people here. From what I've read can be attributed to using acidic wheel cleaners. Good luck with the repair, it isn't too difficult.

I'm trying to find a write-up or walkthrough on replacing the part myself - and not having much luck..
Looks like OE Z51 Front Spring is $298 shipped...
I found a writeup on C5's - but no mention of C6's... anyone know any details?
Thanks,
Dan

What I did was to unhook the shock from the lower control arm then unhook the upper control arm from the frame on each side with a jack under the brake rotor to slowly let it down. Once you undo both it should just slide out of either side after you unhook the mounting brackets for the spring itself. If there isnt enough slack after all of that, you will need to unhook the brake caliper to let it drop all the way down (be sure to support it with something and dont let it hang by the brake line). Be sure to put all the shims back in the right place on the upper control arm when you reassemble.
I types this on my phone so please look past typographical errors .
