Ok to drag race on 91 octane
I filled up with 91 octane last week not knowing I was going to the drag strip tonight. It's an 06 LS2 completely stock... Is it safe to race and run flat out on 91?

Thanks for the help guys. I made 5 passes and best time was 12.985. I was satisfied but, think I can do better next time. I read a few posts where people said the LS2 has 2 timing tables- one for 91 and a better one for 93 octane. Some folks suggested 93 for any type of racing or else you risk damage from pinging.
I added 1.5 gallons of 110 octane at the strip and also added a bottle of octane boost. Didn't hear a single ping the whole night.

Higher octane burns slower, so you may have lost some power. We only have the E-10 91 octane in AZ. If we get a little KR, it's not worth adding anything. But with a lot of KR, trying to push the mix to 93-94 is enough to resolve the temporary problem.

If the car does sense ping from the initial setting it will lower the ignition timing advance to a different table.
