Default LG Streets vs. Texas Speed 1 7/8

Looking at doing headers on my 05. I have Vararam and Nxt Step Performance axle back with tune currently. The car is likely to stay with bolt on mods, no internal work. What may be some negatives going with the 1 7/8 vs. the 1 3/4? You can find the LG streets for around 1200 and the Texas speed headers for about 750, pretty big price difference. I plan on doing a FAST 102 down the line.

1 7/8 will make a little less torque vs the 1 3/4. Both will make similar horsepower.

I think it's worth the cost savings though.

Another to consider is Huron Speed's XS Power longtubes which are only $695: http://shop.huronspeedproducts.com/X...-XSPC6LTHS.htm

I run their exhaust right now and am totally satisfied with it. Fit was perfect.

Based on you mods, you must use an 1-3/4" primary, anything larger will hinder performance

Check Out Stainless Works 1-3/4" headers

Either will still be a HUGE improvement over stock manifolds, and saving 500 bucks would easily make up for the slight performance benefit that would be realized with 1 3/4 over 1 7/8.

i have been wanting to do a dyno test showing the 1 3/4 vs 1 7/8 but only got 1 header manufacturer to send me a set to test, some others have committed! but haven't sent any as promised.

Here is one of many good threads about 1 3/4 vs 1 7/8. Also you will like the FAST intake manifold - http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-t...st-intake.html Good luck with your mods.

That small of an engine I wouldn't go 1 7/8 unless your trying to build a high RPM screamer...to much loss of low end with the larger diameter headers.

I don't know if the Texas headers are stainless, but ours are stainless and carry a lifetime warranty.

Appreciate the input thus far. What kind of numbers should I expect with the Texas Speed 1 7/8 and FAST 102? How about same question if I went 1 3/4 and 102? I would rather feel the power in the low-mid range than peak HP numbers.

The FAST on my 06 was worth a peak number of 15 hp and 21 ft-lbs of torque.....the coolest part was it carried almost 24 ft-lbs at the rear tire from 2100-5600 rpm...which is a big difference in seat of the pants and performance feel of the car.

Going to the larger header....most of that lower end (under 3600 rpm) you are going to loose over what a 1 3/4 would give you.

We did some testing on a 500 rwhp LS3 between the 1 7/8 and 1 3/4 (both our Pro series) and the car would pick up 5-8 hp above 5000 RPM with the larger headers, but loose almost 18-22 ft-lbs below 3600. Your car with a smaller displacement engine and smaller cam would be more on the torque difference.

Slip-fit sucks. That's all I can say.

Along with the above mentioned mods that the threat starter listed would the 1 3/4 still be the way to go if adding a cam, or would the 1 7/8 headers be better?

I don't believe 1 7/8 would be of much benefit until you're making huge power...at least over 600rwhp. Below that I doubt they'll perform better than a 1 3/4 setup.
