Default New exhaust.. 2008 A6. Stainless works longtubes, C6Z mufflers (Dyno results inside)

Was browsing Craigslist and saw this setup pop up yesterday for a damn good price... Picked it up today.

Stainless works 1 7/8" longtubes, 3" "catted" X pipe and stock C6 Z06 axle back.

The C6Z mufflers don't have actuators, he had to remove them for his new dual mode exhaust. Not sure what I am going to do there because I hear they drone pretty bad on the highway when open. Debating keeping the stock mufflers on instead of doing the C6Z mufflers because of that.

Thinking of seeing if these will work with the C6Z mufflers...

Found stock actuators and ordered the sunset orange creations retrofit kit. Looking forward to having full control of the valves!

Ran the SW 1 3/4" setup(with C6Z mufflers) setup for years and had great results. Still have the headers but went with Corsa 3" mufflers to see what kind of gains could be had and am happy. Enjoy the system; it's a good one.

Having a hell of a time with this install.

Auto trans cooler lines in the way of the passenger side primaries... Tried to bend them away as much as possible, couldn't get much more then a 1/8", heat shielded them.

3" X pipe too long/big hits transmission pan. Cut about 4-5" off to allow the X pipe to fit properly.

3" Z06 axle back too long/big to fit around the auto trans. Cut about 4-5" off to allow fitment. My buddy is working on fabbing up the gap now with 3" stainless. Unfortunately it meant leaving the car there and a 4 hour job turning into an all day affair.

Axle back isn't coming off without cutting or dropping the subframe once the fabrication is done... We put V bands at the end of the X pipe incase we needed to drop that section in the future tho.

Figured the only time we would really need to pull the axle back again is if I were changing it, in that case it would need fab work for the new one to work anyway. Can drop the transmission out from under it so figured we were good.

The solution to Z06 mufflers fitting, is to cut off the 3" pipes and weld on your 2.5" pipes from your stock mufflers. You'll also need to reduce the 3" to 2.5" at the back end of your X-pipe or at the front of the over-the-axle pipe.

It's been done a lot, so there are many posts on the procedure to check. I did mine 5 years ago and had I known so many others were going to do it, I'd made a video of the whole swap.

Yeah, he didn't want to do that and wants to make the 3" work instead... We cut the Z06 mufflers on the diagonal part on its way down towards the transmission and he is working on building around the trans now.

The SW X Pipe was too long, it hit the trans pan. Instead of spreading the pipes out he wanted to cut and just build to the cuts..

Well the car is home....

Fought us every step of the way.

O2 extensions weren't long enough.... Extended those.

Dipstick was hitting the headers (LS7 doesn't have a dipstick there) braced and moved that out.

Fired the car up and the muffler valves with no actuators rattle really bad, sounds terrible. Drove it the 15 minutes home like that. Actuators come tomorrow.

I bought GM takeoff actuators... Didn't have the patience to make the others work.

Got those and the sunset orange creations NPP retrofit kit installed.

The Sunset orange creations NPP retrofit was easy to install, we had the tunnel plate off when doing the exhaust so I preran a 7/32 vacuum line along side the transmission cooler lines... This made life easy when I got my actuators and NPP Retrofit in yesterday.

Installing the Actuators with the mufflers on the car was.... interesting.

The vacuum nipple on the back of the intake manifold was no big deal, removed the coil packs on the passenger side and used a 12mm socket to twist the cap off. No more then 15 minutes were spent on it. Not sure how some guys struggle for hours on it.

I have to say Ben @ Sunset Orange Creations is great to work with, I had an issue post install and gave him a call. He answered quickly and was able to walk me through troubleshooting.

The problems arise when you don't know and can't directly see exactly what needs to be done in that small space. If you mess up the first attempt, it gets progressively harder to accomplish. I ended up after an hour of frustration, pulling the whole IM the first time, but the next time my experience level had increased and I was done in 5-10 minutes.

I hope the documentation has improved in the last several years, but I'm sure you are glad this is all done now.

Guess I have had experience with LS3 intakes before... Had a LS3 top end on my GTO and had to open that nipple for the HVAC and my vacuum regulated transmission... Either way pretty easy.

Got a video with a better camera... Still not great tho lol. Valves closed at first then open.

Car put down 394rwhp/395rwtq untuned. Was at a shops open house Friday for the woodward dream cruise and they were offering free pulls. Figured what the hell.

Put down 376rwhp/371rwtq bone stock at a dyno day in the spring. Both dynojets SAE smoothing 3.

Can't wait to get it tuned and see what it picks up.

Car put down 395/404, my buddy got the tune in line on the dyno.

Graph vs bone stock.

We think stock air intake is the restriction point now since power seemed to fall off sooner. Will get a Halltech or something this winter and see where we are in the spring. Also I was picking up some false knock from the exhaust hitting something, will get that fixed before then as well.
