Brake pedal seems to have no retention
I have an 05 with an auto trans and the brake pedal feels like there's nothing holding any retention pressure to keep it from lifting up under hard acceleration or accidentally lifting the pedal up with the side of your shoe when aggressively going between the brake and gas pedals. Should there be some sort of spring holding the pedal down? When it pops up under a hard launch or I pull it up just a little with my shoe it gives me an active handling warning to have the car serviced soon. My car at one time had hand controls so I'm wondering if they removed a spring or something when they removed the hand controls that should have remained for the brake pedal to not lift up. Thanks for any help.

How does the brake booster line look? It's located near the brake master cylinder and there is a check valve on the end of that line. Another area you might check is to bleed your brake hydraulic system completely.

New fluid would be helpful if you haven't done that recently.

The brakes work great it's just the pedal is easily lifted up with your foot or the G's from acceleration. I think something may have been removed when the hand controls were originally installed on the car. If you lift up on your brake pedal is there any resistance? Mine lifts with basically no effort. Thanks.

I just checked mine in the garage. The brake pedal doesn't move more than a 16th of an inch if I pull it up from underneath with my foot. Also, the surface of the brake pedal is even with the surface of the clutch pedal, although I realize you don't have one of these to check. My bet is that something is missing down there.

Hey Nitrous,
I unfortunately cannot offer technical advice. My suggestion is, since it affects your brakes, take it into the dealer. This will get you a solid diagnosis to start from. I can call a dealer for you and set up an appointment.
I know this is not the direction you want to go but I would not want to mess with my brakes, especially on M53 or M59.
Keep me posted,
