My quest for 11's or New Best MPH
In my quest to get into the 11's, I ran a new best mph. Since running a 12.01 at 118.97 with my stock 08 a6 2.56 gear car with the shroud propped and the air filter removed I have tried several things to get into the 11's, but no luck.
I have tried a CAI with a bee hive, the car ran slightly slower. I posted on that a while back.
I tried a hand held tuner, with the 91 octane tune the car ran slower than totally stock. And had some issues with the engine cutting out at wot.
With the 93 octane tune the car ran the same et (12.15) as with the current set up and stock tune at 118 mph. Also had the same cut out issue with this tune on some runs.
Since my 5 year old GoodYears didn't have the grip as when they were new I bought a rear set of the new C7 Michelins Pilot Super Sports ZP's. The new Super Sports provide a lot of grip, maybe too much, as I now have no spin at all. The car was super consistent with the new tires running, five 12.15's and one 12.17. All 60 foot times were between 1.94 & 1.96
For my current set up I'm running a totally stock tune, stock 187 thermostat, stock air intake & filter, a Halltech Beehive cut to fit the stock intake. I have also added Corsa Sports and the Pilot SuperSports.
With this setup my new best 1/8 mile speed is 93.48 and a 121.08 for the 1/4
I gotta figure the Corsa's and the new rear tires helped the mph, the Super Sports are suppose to be a few lbs lighter than the Good Years, that cant hurt.
If you watch my two videos you can see on the 12.01 run with the Goodyears there is some tire spin. I think that might of actually helped the 60 foot times and the total time.
With the new Michelins I have 0 tire spin, but my 60 foot times have slowed some.....
12.01 run..
121 mph run

Hey Dennis, No I didn't try more, sounds like a good ideal. I was running 30 hot in the rears, 35 in the front.
I should also mention that I have the shroud cut per Halltechs instructions...
DA was in the 400-500 foot range

It's a real challenge to get around the TM in the stock tune. A good dyno tune will take care of that elusive 11 sec slip and get rid of the overly rich fuel condition in the process.
If you get within .05 of an 11, pull the passenger seat for a 11.99.

I assume you always run low on fuel as well...

I might be hard to tellin the video's, but on the 12.01 run with the GoodYears, there was slight spin at the initial launch. That 60 foot was a 1.87
With the new Michelin Pilot Super Sports ZP's there has been no spin at all, Best 60 ft with them has been a 1.94
Im guessing the slight tire spin is acting some what like a higher stall converter, letting the car get into the power band quicker,,,

Here's a 12.03 @119 run with the goodyears and all the nannies turned on. Totally stock, but with the air filter removed and the shroud propped open... Again, very slight initial tire spin..
