Default Trans Input shaft splines 05' Z51 vs 06-08 Z06

As my frustration with my trans whine continues I'm thinking about replacing the trans and diff with a low mile 08' Z06 trans/diff that I have line on.

Here's the question, are the trans input shaft splines to the torque tube different? The 05' is a T56 and I believe the 08' is a TR6060.
Thanks
H

The 2008 trans/diff will be a direct bolt in. All T56/TR6060 have 26 splined input shaft.

Thanks Rick, exactly what I wanted to hear. Why can't you be on the west coast.

LOL. We do build them for members all over US and abroad. The installation would be a problem.

Love to since I love the west but I don't see that happening any time in the future.

Agreed, but not something I'm really ready to spend $3500 on. Especially as I am unemployed at the moment. Problem is I have no choice. The whine is getting louder by the day and I'm starting to think something is getting ready to let go.

I figure if I spend $3500 on the TR6060/diff, I can sell the other two diffs (05' 3.42 and 04' Z06 3.42) for at least $850 a piece. The bad 05' T56 trans should still have core value of about $500. That's $2200, which puts be into the new stuff about $1300. Locally it would cost me about $2k to have my trans rebuilt to stock spec. This concept should put me ahead of the game both in cost and quality. Just not looking forward to pulling everything apart again. I'm also thinking I will pull the torque tube this time and make sure there is not a problem there.

Decisions... Decisions.

Just pulled the trigger and ordered the Z06 trans/diff. Ended up with an 07' T56/diff with only 18k miles on them for $3k delivered. Firgured I didn't need the Tr6060 since I don't race. Looks like I'll have diff cooling as well. Will sell off the two good 3.42 diffs (05' and 04')and z51 trans core.

Next week I start the trans pull again. This time I'm pulling the torque tube too. I have a new clutch set and flywheel sitting here might as well install those.

Any tips on the flywheel install or the trans tube R&R?

I would never reuse flywheel bolts.....but that is just the way I was taught. I don't think you are supposed to though. I'm sure someone will have a solid answer for you.

Agreed, I'm reading that the GM bolts are not consistent anyway. I'll order some ARP bolts.

Did you get the rear cradle/lower control arms/spring? You will need that along with our offset mounts to make this combo work. You'll need exhaust mod too.

No... Can you give me some more info? From what I can see it should be a straight bolt in. There should be no dimensional differences from an 05' Z51 T56/diff setup to and 07' Z06 T56/diff setup. I realize the 07' trans uses the updated tail housing but did not see any real dimensional changes.
Please educate me...
Thanks

My apologies, I didn't realize it was a 2005. It's a straight bolt in.

Whew... You scared me there for a minute. While I realized that the Z06 trans/diff are seriously upgraded from the 05' Z51 setup, from a layout and dimensions perspective they are essentially the same and should bolt right in. Given that I have a Z51 I'm hoping the trans/diff cooler lines should hook up as well.

Rick.. Your input is always welcome.
