Default Crank pulley bolt LS7

Hey guys. What size is the socket I need for the LS7 crank bolt? How big of a breaker bar does it usually take? Thanks

24mm is correct. I used about a 2ft breaker bar with a jack handle slid over it for more leverage. You may or may not hear it "pop" when you break it loose, as mine did not. It just slowly started loosening. Also had a large screwdriver stuck in the flywheel to prevent the crank from turning.

Just a heads up guys. I bought a 24mm at the auto store (for some reason I don't have a large metric socket set YET). It didn't fit. I tried another 12 point and it didn't either. It has to be at least a 26mm on the LS7. At least the bolt I have which was replaced when the motor was built about 10k miles ago. It is a 12 point bolt. Not sure if that's stock.

Going to buy a full set right now because all the parts are here and she's goin back together over the weekend.

That isn't a factory bolt, it is an ARP bolt. Should still be 24 but it is a 12 point socket.

Just noticed that when I zoomed in on the pic it says arp right on it. It's definitely not a 24mm 12 point though. Won't even come close to fitting over that bolt head. Gonna google it now. Thx for the post!

ARP is a 12 point 27mm. Damn if I knew that was on there I would have bought another ARP. Much better quality for a few bucks more.

My understanding is that the arp bolt is reusable.

Of course. When the heads and cam and motor was built by the shop. This is the first time I'm tearing it down myself. Now. Question. Is this much slack normal in a C5R timing chain?

Also. How do I find the crank gear mark for lining up the cam? Oil pump have to come off?

You don't need to drop the pan, just loosen most of the bolts towards the front and you'll be able to remove and reinstall the pump.

I got it off somehow without messing with the pan anyone have the specs for torque on all the bolts for reassembly of this motor? Also which ones use red locktite and which use anti-seize?
