Default how to clean coolant overflow tank?

I flushed the coolant system 3 times and am ready to refill with coolant....but how do I get the brownish sludge/residue out of the overflow tank?

have you tried vinegar ? Works to clean other stuff. Do you know why it is dirty? Is it contaminated with something?

It is some type of residue from the dex kool. It is orangeish/ brown sludge that is stuck to the sides of the overflow tank.I've read that dex kool does that after awhile and i am just wanting to get it as clean as possible before refilling system.

tried vinegar, laundry soap, etc. but not ice. Worth a shot but I gave up and put more dex cool in and forgot about it.

I think it needs to be brushed...maybe a large bottle brush. I don't think shaking a cleaning agent around will do it.

I've tried on various other cars throughout the years. Never had much luck. I think the plastic gets stained vs surface deposits.

The best thing to use is GASOLINE.....been doing it for years with several cars and other people I know. fill it up....let it soak for 15 minutes....shake the hell out of it. You will see big chunks come out. Do it till its clean........

Then any degreaser....fill it and let it soak for 15 minutes. Then tons of water till its running out clear.

I always thought it was a permanent stain on the plastic from the orange coolant; so when I flushed my system I just ignored it and refilled the system.

It's plastic and will fail eventually no matter what.

On a couple of C4's I used Castrol super purple and a handful of 1/4" granite.
Plugged the openings, filled about 1/4 of the way full with CSP and the handful of granite then shook it for about 5 min.
Flushed thoroughly with water. Looked like brand new once I was done.
