Default Cmc-30 cam

Hello everybody, I am new to the forum. Just wanted to get some input regarding the 21st century cam CMC-30. I have a 2013 C6 LS3 BASE Automatic. I have made a final decision and have decided to go with 21st century. I talked to john and chris, both stand up guys. I was told the biggest cam I can go on a stock stall is the CMC-30. Ive seen 1 corvette owner do this on an A6. I was wondering how would my street drivability be? do you guys think i would have to stand on the brake wile at stop lights? I talked to other tuners and they say i could even go up to a 229/ size cam and be ok. I dont want to mess with a stall converter.

What are your goals for the car?

If you want more pep off the line or on the street or drag strip, a 3200 or 3900 stall converter will make your car a lot quicker than a cam swap with none of the downside of a cam swap.

I want the agressive sound and shake of the cam. I also want to do at least low 11s. I might consider a stall down the road.

You should get the stall first then. Otherwise you are limiting your cam choices too much and you might end up spending the money on a cam twice.

With modern computers you can get a pretty big cam and still have good drivability.

I have run as fast as 11.26 @ mid to high 123 mph with the following:

Yank 3200
Kooks 1 3/4"
Catted X pipe
Magnaflow Mufflers
UDP
Tune
Vararam
Ported TB

All bolt ons and honestly the car is limited from a better pass because the converter is too tight. My best 60' is a 1.7x and it should be 1.6x or better. Something to think about.

A cam that is small enough for a stock converter is not going to get low 11's with a stock converter.

On the other hand lots if guys get low 11's or even 10.62 with the stock cam and a 3900 stall converter.

Exactly right Joe. No need for a cam to run low 11's. In fact give me long enough OP and you can buy my Yank 3200 when I put the 4000 stall in lol.

Default Good Advice

Listen to these guys they are giving you great advice. I just put H/C/I in my car. I put the converter in my car first and drove it a couple days before I tore it down for the cam and head install. If I had not already purchased the parts I'm not sure I would have installed the H/C/I.

Converters really wake these cars up and the install is very easy. 2 evenings tops.

And OP if your experience is like mine with high stall converters used in old muscle cars, go drive a newer Vette (c5 or c6) with a high stall converter. They have come a LONG way since the 70's...in the old days a high stall made the car feel and act like the transmission was slipping. my buddy Justasheet has a 3600 stall and you can't even tell its there cruising around....until you get on it or he rips a 1.5 60 foot.

I think Yank.

I pinged Justasheet and Theofel to chime in with their converter experiences so you can get a first hand report.

Default Stall

I went with a FTI triple disk, 3600-3800 stall custom built for my application. Couldn't be happier.

Default awsome numbers

Thanks guys, for the great advise; I will definetly consider it.. Even though the cmc-30 cam is not that big of a cam, it still puts down 475-500 RWHP. I was planning on doing the designated stall further down the road with 21st. just not now. those are some great numbers with bolt ons and stall wow.

I've used a Yank 3800 in my ride for the past couple of years. Coan also makes a great converter. My 08 c6 ran consistent 1.48-1.50s with a cam and bolt on's. The Yank is also real streetable. Good luck

What size cam theofel? I'm doing a heads/cam swap as well and those are some great 60' times. Also, is that on 2.56s or another ratio? 26" or 28" tires?

Thanks

I actually saw a local Dallas guy do the CMC-50 in a stock A6, which is a HUGE cam. He liked it and said it wasn't bad to drive, but then each person had a different opinion. The CMC-30 seems to be a good compromise of daily drivability with good power while having a nice "lope". A lot of it is also in the tune, and since 21st designed the cam, they are very good at tuning it. I've talked to several local people with it (in both A6 and M6) and all seem to love it.

482RWHP and 437TQ (corrected). Other mods were:
Halltech SuperBee MF103
BER Ported LS3 Intake Manifold
AR Headers 1 3/4 with catless X
Billy Boat Bullet exhaust
Brian Tooley Dual Spring kit
Milled stock LS3 heads .030
I was at 21st when he got them to do the final tune and they said they could probably have gotten the same numbers without milling the heads, so I would definitely skip that step.

Here's his original thread on it.

Does that cam normally come on a 117 LSA?! Seems really odd considering how big the intake duration is. I would like to see a Dyno sheet on that car
