Default DIC LED upgrade/replacement

So a friend of mine was talking to me about replacing the old (dimmer) style lightbulbs in the DIC with new LED bulbs we found on Amazon. If you are familiar with C6 electrical issue you know that these bulbs go out often. I had the bottom 3 switchlights out on mine so I decided to replace them. He was going to help me tackle this job but had prior obligations he has to tend to so I decided to do this myself. First, I tore out the DIC module and took it apart using very fine tip picks. This is what it looked like disassembled down to the circuit board. As you can tell in the second pic I had already unsoldered all the old light bulbs and started meticulously soldering the new LEDs. Third pic shows the old bulbs.

DIC circuit board finished up

Final product here. Much brighter!

Nice.

But those Vice Grip pliers seem out of place when talking about working on a circuit board.

I think many are like me when it comes to working on a circuit board and soldering. Probably burn a dime size hole in the board and still not get the old bulb unsoldered or the new one soldered in.

The vice grips were there to absorb the heat from my soldering iron (lol). I need a new one. You have to work precisely and meticulously otherwise you can apply too much heat to the board.

Do you have a link to the LED's you purchased? I can't seem to locate them searching "c6 corvette led dic"
Looks good! I have a few out and think I will tackle this also.

All went well, I ended up connecting the negative leads directly to save space on the board. Very easy and great appearance mod! Thanks for the great idea!

Can someone describe how to remove the pod from the dash in the first place?

The bezels with the HUD/DIC buttons just pops in, no screws or anything. Get it out far enough, disconnect wires, remove it (have to kind of rotate it weird ways to get it out, but it'll fit)

The gauges have 4 screws holding them in. Remove screws, pull out, unplug wiring, done.

Hardest part is getting the wires disconnected on the HUD/DIC buttons

you can get LEDs for a few cents each but what's good about these is that they have the required resistors already added. You can see the small lump on one of the leads. So if you want to use plain LEDs remember that you have to add a current limiting resistor so they don't burn out.

Can you dim these LED's, or are they just on - off?

You may be able to dim them along with your gauges all at once.
