Default C6Z06 Track Days

Have a bone stock Z06 that I track. Been using Mobil 1 5w-30 oil since new. Due to hotter temps at the track should I be using a heavier weight oil for track days?

I'm in California and have had some mods done to my car by Katech. For track use they recommended that I use Mobile 1 15w50 which I have been using for the last 3 years with no issues.

IMHO you will be fine with the factory fill 5-30 M1 oil. I ran my Z06 for 8 years and over 20K track miles on M1 5-30 without problems. Watch your oil temps especially in the summer heat and try to stay below 280 deg. If you get above 280, take a cool down lap or two.

sdadams I have a 2007 base C6 A6 with no EOC I'm hitting 280-300. At the end of my HPDE sessions with very hot oil the oil pressure at idle is 18psig with 5-30w and 28psig with 15-50w.
I feel the thicker weight provides better protection and doesn't break down as quick as the thinner weight oils.

When the oil temp gets that high you are losing viscosity, you have to run a heavier oil that delivers the required viscosity at the new elevated track temps. In addition, I would personally run a race oil. Race oil has Zinc and Phosphate, stuff that binds to the internals and lubricates them even in the absence of oil flow. It eventually ruins your cats hence why it is not legal for street use. LS7s are expensive, if it were mine Id be running 15w50 race oil on track.

Thanks to all that responded. Will bump up to 15w-50.
