Default How much HP can a GS drivetrain handle?

Is there a limit to the HP a stock GS can handle in a performance package without trashing the trans or differential? I just noticed that in their setups, there's no beefing up of anything, but the engine.

Thanks for helping educate a real layman on engines.

Depends on use and if the car hooks.

If you are talking about 'runway' races from a roll....the car shouldn't have much of a problem with 700,800,900 hp but would need a clutch upgrade at some point.

If you are talking a street car on street tires...it's just going to spin.

If it is going to run a 15" drag slick...you would have a much higher risk of breaking an axle/diff/driveshaft.

Most guys say that they're pretty safe at 600whp or less. Not that more than that isn't do-able

Considering that GM puts orifice resistors in the clutch fluid line to help protect the drive line from clutch dumps (at the cost to the clutch), and even pulls back power in the TM for the same, even with stock power and these resolve, you chance blowing the drive line with racing slicks on a full stick hard launch off the line with stock HP.

On the positive note, with street tires, your just going to end up just spinning the tire a lot, so at least you will have bragging rights for dyno numbers; although you can never really uses that amount of increased power on the streets.
