Default Axle nut solution - Nord lock with part #s

Instead of the usual Loctite 262 and new set axle nuts:

Nordlock makes an M27 washer that is 1.9" wide - the nordlock part # is NP27SP or 1551. Grainger sells them for 12.89 apiece. The Part# on Grainger is 12W476 http://www.grainger.com/product/NORD...-Washer-12W476

Note: Even though the axle is an m27, the washer is a bit larger. To get it centered on the axle, you can tighten the axle nut until it is just barely holding the washer against the hub, then used a flathead screwdriver to center it with the nut before tightening down all the way.

Also mark the nuts to note any future movement.

I hope this helps some folks out!

Another alternative, cheaper, online with tannerbolt:

Nord-Lock Steel Wedge Lock Washers, Bolt Size: M27, OD: 1.91", Enlarge OD, Thru Hard Steel w/ Zinc Delta Protekt Coat, NORD NL27-SP/1551 - 1 Pairs/PK
Nord-Lock Steel Wedge Lock Washers, Bolt Size: M27, Outer Diameter: 1.91", Enlarged Outer Diameter, Through Hardened Steel with Zinc Flake Delta Protekt® Coating, NORD NL27-SP/ ...
See more details at Tanner »
$6.73
+$6.50 shipping. No tax
Tanner

That price is half of Grainger's for Zinc coated carbon steel. Or $27 + change to get the 316SS version, thats what I use.

Where I live in Oahu, Grainger will charge me higher shipping + tax.

Tannerbolt only charge me USPS Flate Rate Box and no tax.

HTH someone!

After seeing fastenal was selling them at 43 bucks for a set of 2, I thought grainger's pricing was a steal...

Good solutions, but expensive! Not complaining tho. Is there no way (or not enough thread) to use two axle nuts?

I have tested it, and two will fit, but the nordlock is just a cleaner and lighter install

also nordlocking is supposed to be more reliable than the double nut techique. Here is a video testing various methods of fastener use:

EDIT:

forgot to note that nordlocks are reuseable
