Default X pipe Question on 2012 Grand Sport

So I used to own a 2008 C6 Coupe. Not familiar with the exhaust so much with the 2012 GS.
Thinking about buying a 2012 Grand Sport and it has the magnaflow exhaust already installed below:

http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/s...ne=all&id=1154

My question is if it is 2.5, isn't stock 2.5? Why cut up your system to replace with more 2.5 tubing?

Am I missing something? It doesn't remove any of the cats...and it replaces the X pipe so is the X pipe on GS more restrictive and this better flowing?

Anyone familiar with this exhaust?

Thanks everyone! Excited to come back to the Vette world!~~

I agree with you, I would not want to cut up my exhaust for any system, I would buy a bolt on system if I changed it out.

But I have not heard the Magnaflow setup in person either.

Sound is so subjective, many of us get tired of responding to questions about it, because everyone is different.

You really have to decide what you like for yourself.

I would find local car and vette clubs, and ask locals in your area, you may luck out and get to ride in one that has this setup.

Well I actually wasnt asking about the sound of the system. I was asking an X pipe question and if the systems 2.5 tubing was different in some way from our OEM system....However at least you responded!

I might be wrong but to my knowledge the stock pipe in the GS is 2.5" but it actually has an "H" pipe from the factory NOT an "X" pipe. By replacing the stock "H" with the "X" you do gain some sound and HP, plus a muffler change really helps the sound and HP. I have a 2013 and did the same thing, it sounds better but runs much better!

I don't have a magnaflow flow, but swapping out an H for an X generally isn't going to do much in the grand scheme of things. IIRC, I now have an X, but it was part of the header system.

The first owner bought the exhaust for sound, not for extra power.

Incorrect. His 2012 has an x pipe as do 2013s.

Even my base 2010 has the "X" pipe.

It was changed from the "H" pipe sometime earlier than 2010.

Are you sure that your system was cut up? It seems that if your replacing a stock 2.5" exhaust with an aftermarket exhaust with the same size pipes, why would cutting be necessary?

I have a Borla S-Type II and installed it myself and no cutting was required.

Yep if you click on the link I supplied above and look at the installation sheet they had to cut a bit off the stock pipe after the cats. Crazy...right?
On top of that I found out that it is leaking and no matter how tight I clamp the stupid thing it still leaks...Going to need to tack weld it or use some kind of hi temp gasket crap on it.....
Why do they sell crap like this...?? THe exhaust sounds great but dont but the X pipe portion its just stupid....

I ended up buying the car and ...Yep if you click on the link I supplied above and look at the installation sheet they had to cut a bit of the stock pipe after the cats. Crazy...right?
On top of that I slid under it and I found out that it has an exhaust leak right at this point and no matter how tight I clamp the stupid thing it still leaks...Going to need to weld it or use some kind of super clamp and hi temp gasket crap on it.....

They do that so the 2012/13s retain the secondary cats that are welded to the factory X pipe. Removing the cats would be technically illegal or make their X pipe for "off road use only"
