Hurst short throw shifter
I recently replaced the stock shifter on my "08 Z51 vert with a Hurst Short throw shifter and it shifts nice and tight; the problem is when you accelerate hard in gears 2 to 5 you get a rattling noise that I didn't have withe stock unit. Hurst says thats normal because their unit is not plastic and you hear the vibration from the metal to metal contact. Anyone have any thoughts on this? I like the tightness but not the rattle.

No damper on the Hurst shifter and why you are hearing the rattle.
Take a good look at the OEM shifter and notice that even it has a damper on it to keep if from rattling (the bell shape at the bottom).
Even B&M was smart enough to install a damper on it shifter so it did not rattle.
Bluntly, should have went with a MGW shifter from the start, since you will end up with it in the end. Not only does it have a damper to keep it from rattling, but smooth clean smooth short shifts, and rebuild-able (including the lower box) if needed as well.
