Did you lower the steering column? I'm not sure on the a 62, but in my 77 there is 2 bolts right underneath the dash connected too the steering column. I removed the bolts which allowed my column to drop 3 inches. I removed the screws that hold in the that dash piece. The spedo and tach came out together in the dash piece. I had to disconnect the wires for lights and tach, also the spedo cable. The whole dash came right out. Hope this helps.

Before taking the dash apart, check the mechanical cable that goes from your distributor to the back of the tach. More times than not, this is your problem.

Might want to post in the C1 section.

Also check where the cable plugs into the distributor. Sometimes the gear in the distributor strips and will no longer drive the cable. If I remember correctly from my 69 and 71 the distributor shaft has a worm gear on it and the pinion that drives the cable can strip or the gear on the shaft can strip. You can pull the pinion out of the distributor housing without removing the distributor but to replace the shaft you will need to pull the distributor.
