Default Drag radial on a 05

Took my 05 C6 manual car with Nitto Invo's to the track and turned a 12.25 @ 122mph spinning in first and second. I'm considering switching to the NT05R, is this too much tire for a stock 05 rear, I would come off the tree at 800 rpm which is what I did to get the 12.25.

I have 05R on my 2006, but I have a Quaife and diff brace. Not sure if that matters or not. As you know 05 diffs are prone to failure, but subfloor@centurytrans had many runs on his before he had any issues.

Traction will more than likely cut the diff in half. Spinning tires are a fusible link now.

Sucks, I think I could manage an 11 second pass with some traction.

Mine lasted a long time but here's what happened with a pretty good bite and runflats. It never would have stood a chance with my NT05R's.

That post is famous, I beat the crap out of my run flats and my Invo's and no problems, I thought the DR's would still spin since its not a slick.

NT05R is way to sticky when hot, not in the same zip code as normal any street tire. With runflats my car was any way but straight but arrow straight with what I have now.

The NT555R is a little less sticky but it's more than enough to inflict serious damage. I was one of the non believers of how weak the 05 diff was and it lasted far longer than it should have. I don't know how much power you're at but I had a blower installed as soon as I bought the car new and the rear held up well but when it happens it comes out of nowhere. Looking back now I wish I wouldn't have been so hard headed and made the switch to the built Z06 diff while I had a core value.

At 122 mph in the traps I believe I'm around 420 hp, no power adder, cam or heads.

The auto is not a problem. There's some pretty good 05 auto drag racers on here.

His rear end is still in one piece with the hoosiers but the autos are definently easier on the rear end

are you talking 420 rwhp, because i dont think your even at 400, LS1LT1 ran 127 mph with a stalled automatic, I ran 126 with a stalled automatic a manual should have run a higher mph and we have less or around 400 rwhp with bolt/ons

The 05 rear isn't made of glass, but any wheelhop will kill it. The chances of wheel hop are MUCH greater with street tires spinning vs. drag radials.

I got 301 hard launches (like on my signature video) out of my 05 rear but I never had wheel hop. I would never race on street tires, only drag radials.

From day one my car has never had a second of wheel hop no matter what tire at "slightly" above factory HP. It seems these cars are hit or miss on wheel hop.

I'm going to assume he means front tread match NT05 to the rear NT05R which is what I have.
