surely negative 4 overlap is not ALL that is needed to pass ?

i cant imagine a 242 passing , even with 218 and 117 is it true ?
Overlap is a key factor. IIRC, Managing overlap and timing allowed the late model LS1s to ditch the EGR.

There is a declining benefit going over 230* for stock cube NA. I like a lower LSA (not opening the exhaust valve quite as early seems to help a bit in the low rpms) or more intake duration. A 218/230 114 worked nicely on LS1 Camaros with stock manifolds. Rather than 242* on the exhaust, I'd look at a 218/236 115 (or 116 for A6), or even a 224/230 115+3. I get the 242* if you are going FI and opening the exhaust valve early.

M6 is easier to pass because the idle speed can be raised. I remember LS1 guys getting bigger than expected cams passed by temporarily bumping the idle to 900+ rpm to smooth out the chop.

I grew up in Torrance but both sides of my family were in Pasadena from about 1900 to 1990. Pasadena is at the base of the mountains and the pollution would just park there and wouldn't move, it was really ugly. However, in the last 20 or so years Pasadena has really turned around and has become quite nice. The pollution controls actually have made a real difference in California air quality.

Installing headers will move the Catalytic converter downstream which is a illegal in CA.

During a CA smog emission test, a visual inspection of the exhaust system is one of the emission components they check.

If they claim the headers are legal, post the CARB #.

Z06 Full exhaust FTW.... I added the Z06 system on my coupe... Made a world of difference..... And now with my A&A and the Z06 set up I pulled out 544rwhp... nothing else on the car... well a Ported throttle body to....LOL lose to a 180 HP gain with the set up....And mine passed smog easy with the exhaust ....

Wish someone would come up with some CARB approved shorties.

I am running the Z06 exhaust setup as well. I didn't need to for emissions, but it's hard to beat them for the price. Factory cats are nice too.. and no one suspects they aren't original

And they sounds killer.... I have the mod done to mine too..

Here is my dyno run from Monday.... And driving the car around town the last week... ITS LOUD with the Z06 set up on....It wakes up when the boost kicks in ...

I have the "mod" done to mine too.. the flaps on mine are just hooked to manifold pressure.. so when you get on it they open up, which works out pretty well

Hello Mike, a little stiff today? My reply was meant to be a joke (J/K). I've lived here in California for the last 39 years and for 21 of those years I've handled multiple smog situations. Not all individuals in California need to smog my friend.

interesting i too have the c6zo6 manifolds cats and hpipe
just havent installed yet cause cant decide between

lg big3
sw retro chambered 2.5
b&b fusion

back to cams
looks like the c6zo6 cam should work, even on the popular 112
210/230 112 is -4 overlap

my question is at wat point does intake duration not pay off
if 218/230 114 is better than 210/230 112
then why not the A&A stage ii cam 224/232 116 is also -4 overlaps

if i get fast90 and afr205 then 218 or 224 ?

maybe it doesnt make a difference

i mean i see a 218/230 116 has made it in the 10s something like 10.9 with 5.3 heads and -8 overlap ?

218/230 is actually closest to the GM Hotcam everyone used to hate

218/227 .525 112

if -3.5 overlap will pass then so will the hotcam at 113 lsa

with a little over .600 lift the hotcam may redeem itself ?

noticed the ls7 cam is 110/230 120lsa
if we were to combine g5x2 duration wif ls7 lsa
we would end up w
232/240 120
-4 overlap

will a g5x2 on a 120 lsa rlly pass cali smog and wat would it drive like and how would it compare to something like that 218/230 114 [which would also has -4 overlaps]

219/231 117 tr cheatr is another one i am considering
