160 thermostat question??
Hey guys i have a question about installing a 160 degree thermostat on my 07 base corvette. Would i have to tune my car for the thermostat or would the temperature difference not affect anything?.......your help would be appreciated.

No tuning changes are needed or required when just changing thermostats, unless you install one that exceeds the temperature that first turns on the fan.

With the stock 186 thermostat my temp ran 200-205 while cruising. Stock fan setting starts at 15% at 199. When i came to a stop temp would go to 215-220. Now with a 160 thermostat my cruising temp runs 180. But when i came to a stop the temp will go right up to the same 215. So now I set the fan to start coming on at 192 and now when I come to a stop the temp holds at 195-200.

A 160* will run cooler on the freeway and the same temperature in the city as the oem 187* T-stat, unless the fan duty cycle is changed to come in sooner. If you equally, change the fan duty cycle with either T-stat, the temps will remain the same in the city, but cooler on the freeway with the 160* T-stat. This applies to the oem set up, not increased cooling capacities or dual fan setups.

From a temperature standpoint it really doesn't do much for the car. The stock coolant temps aren't unreasonable.

Without a tune to turn the fans on quicker........stop and go traffic will be the same temp.......highway will be a little lower.
