Default ring and pinion question

Does anyone know the differences between the factory z06 ring and pinion gears and the standard gears in the base cars. I know the z06 has a 30 spline main shaft and thus a 30 spline pinion gear, but are there any other differences that would prevent them from being installed in a non z diff? The reason I'm asking is because I broke the mainshaft on my car and I'm trying to wade through the decision of replacing it with a 27 spline 9310 alloy mainshaft or using the 30 spline piece from the z06. The only option I've seen is to have an aftermarket pinion machined to accept the 30 spline shaft. If you want to stay with a 3.42 gear, why not use a 30 spline main shaft with a oem z06 3.42 ring and pinion?

the OEM Z06 gears are physically larger than the base 3:42 gears and will not fit
