Converter and gears hurting dyno #'s?
Ok, I know the dyno is just a tool, and that I should take it to the track. That being said, after seeing the insane #'s posted on some rides such as the bolt-on ride below, I have to think, what gives with my car?
https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-the-dyno.html
I have a 08 C6 A6 with the main mods listed below:
Halltech MF103
Ported (Bob at PeakSpeedShop) 102 FAST
NW 102 TB
"Spinmonster" 230/234 cam
LG 1 3/4" street headers (no converters); stock NPP exhaust
Circle D 3600 stall
RPM 3.42 gears
Most recent tune by Jeremy Formato (in person)
Recently made 454/424 SAE corrected on a dynojet at 80 degrees.
The car definitely rips, and can overwhelm the TC, with the Bridgestone RE-11's on the front and back.
I guess my main question is, how much of a hp/tq loss could I be seeing on the dyno with the higher stall and numerical gears, as compared to the stock stall and 2.56 gears? I just have a hard time believing I'm making similar hp and less tq with a cam and full boltons than a car with just boltons, even though I am an A6. Thanks in advance.

I never get concerned with dyno numbers. Just for fun, since people often ask how much HP, I recently did a couple dyno pulls. The results were 394 rwhp. I'm guessing the 4000 stall doesn't dyno well, since it used to be 411 rwhp with the 3600 stall. Many guys claiming over 500, still aren't running 10's.

My cam only ls3 with a ss3600 at the time only dyno'd 452/412 on the lowest reading setting on a dynojet. I was hoping for just a tick over 450 and I got it. My buddies car made almost 490whp cam only manual though, and at the track I do 10.7@126 and he does 11.5@125. From what Ive seen a bigger stall with hurt dyno numbers some but man does it shine at the track.

When I had a 3600, I dynoed 411 and had a best 60' of 1.56. With the 4000 the HP dropped to 394 and the 60' to 1.48.

I see a lot of dyno sheets in dashboards and guys talking about dyno results.
A lot of Vette owners would never hit a track so the dyno sheet is their source of bragging rights.
That's why they do it. I don't begrudge them. But I respect a solid time slip a lot more than a dyno sheet as I know the dyno sheet just costs money but the time slip takes practice.

Ahh Tom, remember, it's the only benchmark many people have. I go to car shows from time to time, and I'm the only guy who has one of my 10 second time slips blown up and laminated on my dash next to my dyno sheet.

Real world data from guys who take their cars to the track. Thanks guys. This info validates my (as well as tuners who have worked on my car) thoughts that my car makes more power/is faster than my dyno sheet would lead me to believe.
As far as me taking my car to a dragstrip, I would really like to. However, once reality sets in, I realize the nearest one is at least an hour away, and one good pass on drag radials would likely get me booted from the track without abiding by all the onerous safety rules needed to "safely" run a car in a straight line down a 1/4 mile. Between DR's, harnesses, etc., it's more money I choose not to spend right now. Excuses, yes, but those are my thoughts at this time.
Happy Memorial Day all.

These stalled autos are a blast out of the hole. I have to drive an hour and 15 minutes to the nearest track. It would suck to be kicked out after 1 pass. Luckily they let me make 4 passes when they all of a sudden started enforcing the fire jacket rule.

the key is not to race in a tank top long sleeves give the impression of fire jacket

The funny thing was all I had at the time was a full bright red fire suit so I looked life a goof ball in my full suit running high 10s. They checked me at least 7 times because no one ever wears a full suit.
