Default Replace exhaust tips on NPP?

Is it possible to replace the factory exhaust tips on an NPP exhaust with aftermarket tips?

I bought a set of Akropovic Carbon Fiber tips from a forum member in haste. Now I'm not so sure I can simply bolt them right on! Did I make a rookie mistake?

First - it looks like I might have to cut the factory tips off?

Second - The factory muffler is set up with a Y pipe going into the two (smaller) factory tips. The akropovics are larger, and based on the muffler's center outlet to Y configuration it looks like I could not fit them in there even if I had a shop cut the old tips off and weld in a new Y pipe to mount the new tips to. I might actually have to replace the axle back with a set up that has two separate pipes coming out of the muffler for each of the two tips (per side).

My future mods involved headers and an x-pipe but I was planning on keeping the NPP mufflers. If I did replace them it would only be with akropovic or B&B fusion...and I am not convinced they are worth the big $ they cost. Sure they sound great but spending that kind of money just for sound is tough for me.

Thanks for the input!

Did you purchase just the Akra tips? I believe that is what you are saying, I would not throw these tips on a different exhaust. How much did you pay for them if you don't mind me asking? You would probably be better selling them and buying the mufflers. You have yourself some pretty expensive tips as you just can't buy them anywhere...

Ok gents I am giving this thread a bump as I have not been able to find anything on the forum here in response. I've taken the car to a shop and discovered the OEM tips will have to be cut off, new Y pipe mocked up and welded in to accommodate the wider akropovic tips, the welded in. I plan to take the plunge as soon as I can leave the car for a day. I'll keep you posted. If anyone has tried this franken-mod exhaust and would like to warn me before I step in it I'm all ears!

I haven't, but I'm in for pics! Be sure and post them.

Are the Akropovic pipes made of titanium? Does your exhaust shop have the titanium wire and expertise to weld it? Can you even weld titanium to stainless? I am not a welding expert but I thought it was tough to weld because it's so brittle.

I'd hate to see you turn those outlandishly expensive tips into drink holders...

Holy smokes I never thought of that! I guess I better find out. I have the Carbon Fiber tips, but the metal flange is...?

I'm guessing its titanium, if it's lighter than your mind thinks it should be, it certainly is.

Titanium is brittle and tough to work with.

You might be able to cut your tips off and slit and expand the factory pipes to fit over the tips' pipes (you exhaust shop will have an expander), then clamp them on.

Well, if I read the OP's post correctly, his is NOT an NPP exhaust because he says he has the "Y" going to the dual tips.

I'm pretty sure NPP and Z06 mufflers have seperate tips, with no "Y".

I've went through all the options and you can't get tips big enough on there to justify paying to have it done as the holes in the muffler exits limit tip width

I like my npp and would love a better set of tips for purely appearance

I'm going to tackle this mod too but with the knockoff Akra's which are stainless and not Titanium. It does look like an extension might have to be welded to the NPP to be able to slip the tips on and clamp . So any good "tips" would be appreciated . lol

Here's a pic. I would weld

a short piece of stainless tubing to the mufflers then clamp the tips on.
